OVERSEAS SERVICES TO IMMIGRANTS POSE QUESTIONS
(Continued from Page Nine) agencies make provision for transportation, but for those who wish to return of their own free choice, no funds are available? If our overall aim is the maximum adjustment of the individual and his family, why should we not be as ready to provide bis transportation from the United States to Europe
as the reverse? The present policy seems geared more to protective considerations (since an alien who is deported at Government expense may not subsequently re-enter) than it is to the real needs of the individual family. Similar problems are involved in the case of separated families where the European members have little immediate prospect of immigrating, and in instances where an immigrant may wish to undertake a second migration to Israel,
I hope that my colleagues will not think I tanLOD .out d my way to smphftsixe the shortcomings of overseas services. There can be no question about the magnificent work which these agencies and their staffs have done and continue to do in the face of handicaps which would discourage most of us. However, I was asked to pose some of the questions in the minds of local workers and this I have tried to do.

MEAT KREPLACH
two eggs
one-quarter teaspoon salt
one pound cooked beef
two cups flour (approximately) one small onion
Put meat through food chopper, add fried onion, salt and pepper to taste. To make dough, mix the eggs, salt, flour, and water. Knead until elastic. Roll out thin and cut dough into two-inch squares. Place a spoonful of meat in the centre of each square, fold one corner over diagonally to form a triangle and press the edges firmly together. Work quickly or the dough will become too dry. Allow the kreplach to stand for about ten minutes, then drop them into boiling salted water and cook for one-half hour. Remove from water and add to soup.

Twenty religious, charitable, benevolent and educational institutions will inherit 90 per cent of the estimated M, 000 ,000 estate left by AI Jolaon, the singer, it was disclosed when the executors petitioned Surrogate WiVliam T. Collins, of New York, to accept jurisdiction over the estate.
The petition said that Mr. Jol-son, who died in San Francisco was a resident of 'California and had on deposit with the Irving Trust Company cash and securities valued at more than $2,760,000 representing 75 per cent of the estate. Most of the eighteen organizations named as residuary legatees have headquarters in New York, the executors said.
The will, drawn on September 30, 1949, named a executors Charles Schwartx, an attorney, and the Irving Trust Company and directed them to set up a trust of $1,000,-000 for the benefit of the singer's wife, Erie Jolson, of Ensino, Calif.,

Mr. Jolson also directed that a trust of $100,000 be created for the benefit of a former wife, Ethel Weimar, of AjnityviHe, L. I. The latter, according to the will, is known also as Claire Oaborne. She is to receive the income for life.
Upon termination of the various trusts the principal of each reverts to the residuary estate.
Mr. Jolson bequeathed $200,000 to the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Los Angeles, to be known as the "Al Jolson Fund," and $50,000 to the North wood Sanitarium at Sa-ranac Lake, N. Y.
The residuary estate is to be Shared equally by the following organizations: Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies; Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York; Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies of New York; *ree Synago-

Mr. Jolson also named as residuary legatees Columbia University, New York University and the City College and directed that the legacies be used for needy students.
While the value of these legacies could not be determined, it was estimated that the residuary bequests' and interests in the various trusts would eventually exceed $100,000 each.
Mr. Jolson also left legacies of $10,000 each to his brother, Harry Jolson, of Los Angeles; his stepsister, Gertrude Solod, of Baltimore, and to his stepbrothers, Michael, George, and Enril Jolson, all of Washington. He also left specific legacies to several friends.
