� CANADIAN Jewish Congress has secured permission from the federal government to bring two hundred and fifty D. P. dressmakers from Sweden and from refugee camps in Austria, Germany, and Italy. The first group of fifty are expected within a few weeks. The movement is part of the migration of industrial workers to Canada under which many thousand Jewish refugees have been brought to Canada by the Canadian Jewish Congress since 1947. The Dress Manufacturers' Guild of Montreal and Toronto is cooperating with the Congress in this project by ensuring employment for those who will come to Canada. Pledges of of employment for several hundred dressmakers have already been made. Registration of prospective emigrants to Canada has already begun overseas by the American Joint Distribution Committee and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. The J .D .C. has assigned Miss Lottie Levinson, formerly of Vancouver, B. C., and now a member of the J. D. C. staff at Frankfurt, Germany to this project. The Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada will be responsible for the reception and the placement of the dressmaker immigrants when they arrive in Canada.

Mrs. Sarah Yarikelovitch Fogel-baum died on February 28, after a lengthy illness at her home, 4278 Clark Street. She is survived by her husband, Haskcll Fogelbaum; three sons, Samuel, Jack, Louis; and three grandchildren, Estelle and Morrie Fogelbaum, and Rena Rose Fogetbaum. � Rabbi Samuel S. Mayerberg of Temple B'nai Jehudah, of Kansas City, Missouri, who led the overthrow of Missouri's infamous Pendei gast political machine, will address the radio congregation of the Message Of Israel (ABC Sunday, 10-10:30 a.m., E. S. T.) on the Sundays in March. For the past 20 years Rabbi Mayerberg has never missed his: Tuesday assignment as professor of Old Testament Literature and Hebrew History at the School of Religion at the University of Kansas. A brilliant scholar, he entered, the Hebrew Union College and University of Cincinnati when only sixteen years of age.

� NATIONAL CONFERENCE for
Israel and Jewish Rehabilitation is being convened on March 25 and 26, in Montreal by Samuel Bronfman, national president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, under the joint auspices of the Congress, United Zicnist Council, Canadian Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, and Bnai Brith to stimulate Canadian efforts to meet the needs for immigration in Israel, overseas relief and rehabilitation. Rabbi Jesse Schwartz is co-director of the conference. William W. Solkin is executive secretary. A native of Montreal and a graduate of Mc-Gill University and the University of Toronto, he has been serving as assistant director of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies and of the Combined Jewish Appeal of Montreal. He will also act as director of the United Israel Appeal in Montreal.

� CANADIAN Jewish Congress: The head of the University of Montreal's department of English literature, Prof. Thomas Greenwood, will be the guest speaker at a reception which the Congress is tendering in honour of the members of the Jewish Writers' Association of Montreal On Saturday, at the Snowdon YM-YWHA, at 8:30 p.m. The Jewish Junior Welfare League will act as hostesses on behalf of the Congress. The reception, which marks the closing of the Jewish Cultural Festival, will hear as speakers: Monroe Abbey, president of the Canadian Jewish Congressman Eastern Canada; Melech Ravitch, president of the Jewish Writers' Association; Lavy M. Becker, national chairman of the education committee of the Congress. Recitations from the writings of Jewish writers in Canada in English, Hebrew, and Yiddish will be given.

� Y.M.-Y.W.H.A. film aeries, chairmanship of John Linder, will present "Metropolis", on Sunday, March 11, at 8.30 p.m., at the Mount Royal Building, instead of the Snowdon Y., as planned. Directed by Fritz Lang in 1927, the film portrays a super-city of the future, where workers are reduced to machines, and the plot shows the reconciliation of the workers and the controlling magnates.

Isaac (Itzel) Herzberg, 84 St Cyrille Street, Quebec City, widower of the late Mrs. Etta Schachter Hetrberg, died on Fsb-ruary 27, in his seventy-seventh year, at Jeffrey Hale Hospital, in Quebec, after a lengthy illness. Hs is survived by a son, Hyman; a daughter, Miss Rebecca Heritor*, both of Quebec; and three sisters, Mrs. A. Miller (Sarah); Mrs. M. Miller (Gnsste); and Mrs. H. Herman (Eva), all of Montreal. Funeral services and burial were in Quebec City. Rabbi Joshua Epstein and Reverend I. Kleinman officiated. A native of Rumania, Mr. Herzberg was one of Quebec's oldest Jewish residents, having gone there some sixty years ago. He was an active member of the community having served in the capacity as executive Tor many years. He was also a prominent merchant and manufacturer.
