Broadcasting company drops Bufletin lawsuit
Alibel suit against the Jewish Bulletin has been dropped by Vancouver's Radio One Broadcasting Corp. The suit was dropped Dec. 22, 1997, in British Columbia Supreme Court. Discharged were the Bulletin, former editor Ariela Friedmann, the paper's executive vice-president Andrew A. Buerger, Anglo Jewish Publishers Ltd. and staff writer Roberta Staley. The suit was launched in 1996 by Radio One,
which owns CKST AM 1040 radio.
The libel complaint related to Bulletin stories that reported on complaints that were formally lodged with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, the national broadcasting watchdog. The resulting probe by the CRTC found that the station did not contravene Canada's 1986 Radio Regulations governing all broadcasters in the country. □
