Reacting quickly to news that tlieir chil
dren's education is in doubt, parents from 'Vancouver Hebrew Academy have formed a steering committee to ensure the school continues.
The 10-parent committee's primaiy goals are to establish a now board of directors and to secure funding that will make up a for
shortfall in the school's income for the end of • the 1997-'98 school year. The shortfall is, in part, due to a pledge of $350,000 that was made at the beginning of the school year that has not materialized.
"It's clear that we have financial troubles and it's also clear that there's a number of people who have been very generous in the
past. Yet now we are stuck," said Andrea Kowaz, a member of the steering committee who has two children at Hebrew Academy. "So we're trjdng to look at ways that we can constructively have this wonderful school keep going."

Vancouver Courier columnist Greg Felton does not follow journalistic ethics, says a representative of the Canadian Israel Committee (CIC) in Toronto.
"\Vhat you fmd in Felton is no adherence to journalistic standards at all," explained Paul Michaels, director of communications for the CIC, in reference to several anti-Israel "columns the writer has published. "This coimtry abides by standards of free speech and I would defend that, but I still think that journalists, if they're going to have credentials as journalists, have to abide by standards of journalistic ethics and in Felton's anti-Israel polemics he abides by none of that."
The CIC is an umbrella organization that represents the Canadian Jewish community on matters of Canada-Israel
