She doesn't claim her interior design is for people in the poor-house, but Karen Wolinsky says her concept makes decorating or redecorating a home an accessible and affordable exercise for most everyone. In town for only a year, Karen's New Interiors has created "lots of interest," she happily tells me.
Bom in Winnipeg, Karen's an interior design graduate from the University of Manitoba. Her thesis involved redesigning Winnipeg's Shaarey Zedek synagogue where she was a member. Her experience, explains Karen, includes residential, commercial and showroom design, not to mention set decorating for films.
Karen says she gave up her Winnipeg business... Use What You Have Interiors... to be closer to her sons who both work in Vancouver's bustling film industry. With a little mazel... luck, that is ... Karen's business will take on a similar bustle. Her phone, 326-0001.
On April 1, Negev Dinner hon-orees Joe and Rosalie Segal host a pre-dinner dinner at their home for top-level donors. And why not? The Negev Dinner, Apnl 9, is a double mitzvah event ... JNF and Israel Bonds jointly honoring the Segals. So why not a double mitzvah double dinner?
Mazel tov to my bosses! They got another plaque ftiom the Jewish community. This time from the JCC in recognition of five consecutive years of "outstanding media support" to its annual Sports Dinner. JWB co-owner Kyle Bergcr, who received the award at a breakfast for Sports Dinner sponsors, says he's now inspired to become more of a sportsman himself and to make less of a sport of eating. Gimme a high-five, Kyle!

Lisa Romalis teaches fourth grade at the Richmond Jewish Day School. For two years now, Lisa has, with added incentive, encouraged her students to read more. Giovanni's Vahneh... Giovannis'Bathtub... is how I would retitle Mozart's Don Giovanni, were I doing his opera in Yiddish.
Mozart bases this gorgeous work on the legendary Spanish seducer Don Juan, a gallant libertine whose libidinous exploits and blasphemous conduct get him eventually dunked, so to speak, in the vahneh of hell's fiery flames. Hence, my Yiddish metaphoric tag. Original, eh?
A Vancouver Opera production oiGiovanni's Vahneh... oops... Don Giovanni plays at the Queen E. March 25, 28, 30, April 1, 3. Details, 280-3311. Season subscriptions, 683-0222.
