DAVID LEVINE PASSES AT 80
David Levine passed away fol"' lowing a brief illness on Decl' 1. He was 80 years of age.
Mr. Levine is survived by his > wife, Edith, and a sister^ Rose.
Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at Schara Tzedeck chapibl with Rabbi P. Plotldn and Caritori^ M. Nixon officiating. Interment followed at Beth Israel Cemetery.-;; Chevra Kadisha was in ' charge " of arrangements.' " ^ >

He described the honoree as a - "great force in this community -not only as a, human being, but as a true Jewish person.''^ Just as Mr. Cohen's' parents were involved in Montreal in the early . establishment of the community's synagi^ss,'schools and hos.-pitalsv'iMr.^ Altman noted,- Mr. t Cohen has played the same role> in. the establishment of similar institutions in Vancouver. ; "We have in Moe Cohen agrad-■~ uate( of the university of humanity, : 'magna cum laude"', he remarked. , > Mr. Lando, also a past chairman and a member of CJC board. Stated: "With a Moe Cohen you can imd do build a community. Our community has been enriched by his presence." > Mr. Lando recalled that under Mr. Cohen's leadership, Van-. couver established the first v Women's Division of any United -Jewish Appeal in Canada. He also helped establish the Pacific Region ofboth CJC and the Zionist Organization of Canada.
"I know of no organization," Mr. Lando noted, "to. which he has not given leadership either . by pulling, pushing; or -nagging. Somwwhere down the line Moe Ctdien was always there."
Morris Saltzman, executive-director of both CJC, Pacific Region and the. Jewish Community: Fund and Councilj [presented Mr. CcAen with the recentlyr-published book, "Jewish Life in Canada," by Abe Arnold.
Mr.: Saltzman recalled he had first met Moe Cohen in 1942. and : since 'then had had 34, years of association with him,.in- business dealings and commima! activities.
"The respect and V affection everyone has directed towards him is unique," said Mr, Saltzman^ "He is sincerety dedicated to everything Jewish, to his com- ; munity and. to his fellow man.
