Ludwig Lewhison Praised
Boston. — Ludwig Lewhison is the foremost American Jewish writer of the day, says Miss Fanny Goldstein, Boston Librarian,.. who spoke recently before the New Bedford Section, Council of Jewish Women. Miss Goldstein spoke on "The Rising Tide of Jewish Literature." Among the Jewish writers of to-day besides Lewhison whom Miss Goldstein named as outstanding, were Rebecca Kohut, Leah Morton, Robert Nathan, Joseph Auslander, G. B. Stern, Sara Gertrude Millin. Prominent German-Jewish writers mentioned were Lion Feuchtwanger, Franz Werfel and Emil Ludwig.
It is interesting to note here that most of the authors mentioned by Miss Goldstein are well represented on the shelves of the Vancouver Jewish Community Centre Library.

Warburg Considers Himself as Servant
"I consider myself a servant of the Jewish people, and my duty is to help carry out those measures which are wanted by them," declared Felix M. Warburg, chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Jewish Agency.
The Editor; Weekly News, Community Centre, Vancouver.
Dear Sir:
Last Friday I was surprised to receive at my home, in addition to the Centre's own paper, a new publication bearing the appropriate name of "The Independent Jew."
This was a great surprise to myself and to my family, for I think that it is generally agreed that the Centre Bulletin is an adequate medium for Jewish expression in the city. Because, the Centre Bulletin was undergoing a di^cult period of adjustment, and, therefore, not quite regular in its publication, it appears that the opportunity was seized by the printing shop of the "Independent Jew" to bring out a paper of its own. ;..
Judging by conversation heard about town, it is very obvious that the Community does not welcome this "Independent Jew," but resents strenuously this unfair intrusion in a field which is properly that of the Centre.
At a time when solidarity and co-operation is being sought to help establish our Centre financially, when the energies of the communal leaders are directed towards building a united community, it is indeed annoying to find such an aflPront coming from the "independent Jew."
It is not a question of discrimination but merely of service and the centre's welfare. There is no necessity for a controversy. The Centre Committee'has arranged a successful publication policy, it seems a pity and a shame that an independent should cause such a progressive step to be vitiated. I am sure that when the people of this community are given the facts as they really are, and not as they have been deliberately misconstrued by the Independent Jew, that they will agree that our Committee has done the right thing.
Yours truly,
WM, N. ZIMMERMAN, Pres. of Board of Governors.

Jewish Students Quit
University Under Pressure
Constantinople, Mar. TO—^All Jewish students in the medical faculty of the university here have been compelled to quit under the pressure of unceasing persecution by their non-Jewish classmates. Of late the lectures have been disturbed whenever a Jew appeared and he was immediately insulted and thrown out. The professors have in no way had anything to do with the trouble.
Lithuanian Jews Hurry to South Africa
Kovno.—^Thousands of Lithuanian Jews are crowding the shipping com-panys' offices here to book passages for South Africa, in order to reach that country before the new quota law takes effect on May 1st. The new law will restrict immigration to 50 per year from each European country. The same state of affairs exist in most of the large Polish cities, as well.
