/ to compete in' ^Y event, The'field was
, open to all athletes.- ^ V
Emanuel Back in the Ring Armand Emanuel, San Francisco lawyer and heavyweight fighter, made a return to the squared circle the other night in Los Angeles and won a ten round decision oyer the Boston fat boy Jimmy Maloneyi in a ten round go. Emanuel looked fair but I still believe that he should stick to the law.
Hakoah in Lewis^^C^
The .two strongest soccer teams in the Metropolitan district, Hakoah and . the Nationals, played true to form and remained in the' competition for the Lewis Cup. Both teams by 'easy victories won their way into the semifinals.- Hadoah, due to the brilliant playing of Erno Schwartz, beat the Giants 5-2 to gain their bracket and will now meet the Nationals for the right to meet Fall River in the finals.
Kiirzrock Wins Tennis Tilt—Davis Cup Team Picked
Dr. Lawrence Kurzrock repeated his victory of last year by again winning the Greater New York Tennis Tournament, annual affair held in that city each spring. The Doc, had a comparatively easy time of it this year, winning in the final round from Percy Kynaston 7-5, 6-2, 7-5. Although Kurzrock is not. one of the first ten ranking players, he is at any rate the best Jewish southpaw in the game.
Jackie Fields Loses Welterweight •Crown
Jackie Fields, first and only Jew to hold the world's championship welter-weiglit crown was deposed by the colored fighter. Jack Thompson, in one of the most startling upsets of modern ,ring history. Jackie, after having defeated the negro on three previous • .occasions, went into the ring an over-whelming favorite and to the amazement of everyone was decisively defeated in a fifteen round bout.
Although Jackie lost the crown I don't for a minute think that he is through as a champion. He's too young, (21) and has plenty of confidence. . It's my hunch that he lost through over-confidence.. Having won three times I don't suppose he respect-: ed his opponent's powers. The dope-seems to be that the Idovs will meet-again and I would advise the betting"
people among you to get a bet on the Jewish boy,
Jackie's lost crown may cost him a nice purse. The scheduled fight between Jackie and McLarnin for this summer may now be called off.
Something to Smile At
An excited poet dashed into the editorial offices of one of the ultra-smart and ultra-modern poetry publishing houses, and with much agitation asked to see the Editor.
Excited poet, "I made a mistake. Instead of. sending my regular weekly poems, I mailed you my laundry slip."
Editor, "Too late. It's already gone m. ■■ • ■ ■ ,- ■ ■
