Interesting^ Concert To Be Given at Centre on Saturday Eveningf
An event of rare interest is: the concert which is being arranged by the Montefiore-Concordia Club, to be held at the Conimunity Centre on Saturday evening, October 4th.
Mr. Simon Phillipov, distinguished Russian musician will give a program of Unusual: interest. Mr. Phillipov plays the Russian Balalaik'a, a stringed instrument rarely heard in this country.
Mr, Leo Mahrer will be assistant artist. Mrs. M. H. Brotman, well-known actress and elocutionist, has promised to render dramatic monologues. Mrs. Brotman, who for some years acted at the Empress Theatre in stock companies, is now a prominent member of the Vancouver Little
Theatre, and her ability in dramatic art is well known in the community.
Mr. Donald Hislop, tenor ,wiil take a prominent part on the program.
Another well' known musician, who is expected to perform on Saturday evening, is Miss Ella Stankevitch. This young Russian pianist needs no introduction, as she has on numerous occasions, delighted large audiences with her exceptional artistry.
Admission for this unusual treat will be 75 cents for adults. A large turnout is expected. - •

^Owing to a great deal of extra work that was entailed in bringing out the large Rosh Hashona number of the "News," proof-reading was not as thorough as it might have been, and several errors were made in the set-up w^ich we now correct.
In connection with Council of Jewish Women's' activities, the activities described as being imder Mrs. M. Ko-enigsberg's chairmanship, should have been allocated to the department headed by Mrs. Max Grossman. Mrs. M. Koenigsberg is the chairman of the religious classes, while Mrs. Max Grossman is chairman of the Educational department.

The Xillian Freiman Chapter of Hja-dassah opened the new season; with a. largely attended social evening on September 14th at the Centre. Cards and mah jong were played 3y guests. A sale of home-cooking and fancy work, from v/hich a considerable sum of money was raised. The executive of the Lillian-Freiman Chapter wish to express through the colurnns of this paper their thanks for the co-operation received and to extend New Year greetings to all whose support in the past has. contributed so much to the success of the chapter^
