HAVE I FAILED?
•Not being a newspaper man, I cannot write—I never could prepare a decent ad, yet I w-ant to tell you all about May 4, which falls on a Wednesday.
Centre Day—^May 4
Now, there is January 1, May 24, July 1, and other big days—but to me May the 4th is very important, too, because it is Community Centre Day.
Centre Day—May 4
You know in Biblical times the citizens made an annual contribution of one-tenth of their crops, cattle, etc.," to the up-keep of their Temple—they still do in Utah.
Centre Day—May 4-^ ' iDv-Vancouver, we do things differently.
Centre Day—May 4
Now, this new iftea tif holding a party in your home for your dearest friends to boost our Centre sounds good.
Centre Day—^May 4
The plan is veiy simple—the idea is this—you either hold a Luncheon, give a Dinner, or throw a party, for as many guests as possible, and ask them to make a money contribution.
Centre Day—Jsoay 4 -Those who play cards can either turn over all or part of their winnings to the treasury.
Centre Day—May 4
The winners are not out—the losers don't care. Every one has a good time, and all can help.
Centre Day—May 4
I suggest that husband and wife talk this over now^—decide on your form of entertainment. Pick your guest-list, phone your friends, and call Miss Goldberg, Bayview 4210, for any information necessary, and you are all set to put this program over.
Of course, if you can't entertain yourself, get invited to some friend's home that day.

Samuel Lodge, No. 668, B nai B'rith
"GOODWILL MEETING"
Congratulations are due, to the' Intellectual Advancement Committee of Samuel Lodge, No. 668, under the Chairmansliip of Brotlier P. P. Dr. J. I. Gorosh for the'successful ieven-ihg provided for. on Tuesday lai^t, April 19.
The membership were in^^ted to bring with them a non-Jewish friend in order that the work of the Order might be better known and to lielp spread a better feeling between Jew and Gentile. It is peculiar that even' in the twentieth century how little the ouside world knows the Jew,, in a real sense, and only picture the majority of them as seeii in the page* of the- Merchant of Venice or in Charles Dickens description of "Pagan," or in movie picture shows. To the majority of our friends auvl neighboursi, with wlipm we mix daily, we are an enigma, and it' is always a matter of surprise and consternation to those who occasionally meet us in a social way to find that our aims and objects in life in no way differ from theirs. On this oceasion the guests of hoiior, were James A. Beck, the Deputy Grand Master of the Masonic Order of B.C.; His Worship W. M. McKay, His Worbhip Paul Kerr and^the Crowji Proseeutor, Oscar Orr. Conspicuous anicng the guests could be seen mary leading lights in the banking and legal pro-fc'sicn. and many promiacr:! m:»jj-bers of the Masonic and other fra-; ternal societies.
Tlie Chair was occupied by Bro. E. Goldsmith, the Presidenii, who, in a very able and efficient manner conducted the meeting. His .speech of welcome to the guests and the explanation of the meeting deserve special praise.
The Lodge opened in due form with tlie usual' ceremonies and tho initia-:ion degree was then ^conferred on Pliilip Gelin, Kiva. Haarmsohn Lawrence Lepovsky, Leslie L. Pottel, B.A., L.L.B., and Julius Eadinsky.
The degree team under the able captaincy of Bro. P. P. Jules Ablo-witz consisted of P.P. Bro. J. Able-witz, P.P. Bro. J, B. Jaffe, Bro.'s S. A. Goldston, B.A., Myer Potter, B. Eose, with Bro. Leo Mahrer as Organist. This impressive ceremony has never been better rendered and reflects the greatest credit on every member of the Team.
At the conclusion of the initiation vocal solo's were rendered by Mr. A. Gerhardt-Olly following which James E. Beck, the Deputy Grand Master A.F. & A.M.; addressed the meeting.
After congratulating the Lodge on the ceremony lie stated that he had been deeply impressed by the beautiful ritual which in many parts were identical with Masonic teachings. He felt that the reverential manner and deeply religious sentiments expressed must leave its mark on all present and more especially on the candidates. He congratulated the Lodge on the good work it was doing and wished them every success. The Lodge then cli^sed in due form and adjourned to the Banquetting Hall where provisions had been made for seating every one present.
Bro. E. Goldsmith acted as Chairman and Toastmaster and. called upon Bro. S. A. Goldston to say "grace." After justice had been done to the
