Beth Israel Congregation
Inauguration, Induction .and Installation
. Wednesday, Nbvember SOth, 1932, will always be remembered as a red letter day in tli& history of the Vancouver Jewry, as it marked a new epoch in their history, for it was on that day that the Congregation Beth Israel officially .received its charter, inducted its Rabbi into office, and its newly elected officers and those of its sisterhood were officially installed.^
TTie ceremony took place in the Oval Room of the Vancouver Hotel and a large gathering of approximately 200 people were present to witness the unique ceremony.
It was unique',' inasmuch as it was full of enthusiasm, for it seemed that something Vancouver Jewry had been wanting was now within their reach. It was ujzique, because it brouglit together all classes of tlie community, Orthodox, Conservative and R-eform, eager to congratulate those who were responsible for the birtli of the new congregation. OrtHodoxy represented by t'he Rabbi and President of the Schara Tzedeck Congregation tendered their congratulations and cooperation. The Zionists were largely represented, and imbued with the same spirit, but somehow in the mind of the writer, something was lacking. Possibly it was the environment in which the ceremony was held wliieh made the proceedings far from having that solemnity which is usually felt on such occasions.. Probably also the ■omission of the custom of tlie blessing of the New Rabbi and the new congregation miglit have also had tlie same effect.
But Congregation Beth Israel is now a living unit and the "Bulletin" on behalf of the Community expresses the sincere hopC'that it will live long to foster that stpirit of Judaism that Vancouver had lacked.
Tliough a leugtliy report Avas given in our last issue, we feel that many things that might have been said wore omitted. We especially must

Addressing the Rabbi he said "Chozok Ver-A-Motz" (Be strong and of good courage) and if he did so, the Divine blessing would rest on the labours of his hands.
Rabbi Bokser (in addition to what Was reported*!!! 'oiif last issue) stated '•'that the liaiJpiness of the Rabbi Vvas determined by the progress he made. If he had the loyal support of his congregation success would be his lot. If the enthusiasm shown continued, and did not die down he felt that Congregation Beth Israel would prove the reason for its existence.
Great things, claimed the Rabbi, had been done but greater things could yet be done. It was not the present he had to fear but the unknown future. It was not the way they had begun that would prove their worthiness, but the ;vay they intended to carry on.

Dear Sir:
Because I have always been interested in the dignified development of tlie "Bulletin" as a chronicle of Jewish life in this city, I am writing to commend the Editorial Board for its action in removing from its columns the feature mildly described as "Gab and Gossip." The series were doubtlessl.v offensive to man.v "Bulletin" readers.
Tlie "Bulletin" has a real future. Lot us attempt to maintain a standard wortliy of its purposes.
