(LEON COOK) For countless generations in spite of threateiiing obstacles, in defiance of racial hatred, the Jew of every country, has managed to obtain a rank amongst the leading scholars of the day. Physics and Chemistry, Literature and Astronomy, and every other subject under the scope of human intelligence has, during the trend of,time, felt th*^ infiuence or some Jewish mind, known the contributions of .some Jewish genius. ■
Undoubtedly, the Jow. has been a major factor of the world's development. But are the rest cf the world willing to recognize the fact? Bin-stein, the great mathematical genius of the age, is proclaimed to the world at large as a German. Reluctantly, they admit he is a Jew. Disraeli was hailed as an Englishman and Israel as a Dutchman. Thus it. can be shown down through the ages that Jewish ability has forever been obscured in the name of the country sheltering that particular Jew.
Accordingly, when in 1918, on top of majestic Mount Scopus in Jerusalem the foundation of a Hebrew University was laid, the Jews of one accord, in one universal shout, acclaimed with joy the revival of Jewish culture, the rebirth of Jewish nationalism. Zionism had achieved one of the greatest steps in realizing the dream of a wandering people. Palestine was yielding its first consolation to a tortured nation.
Unfortunately, however, conditions in Palestine do not breed financial .successes. Accordingly, Jewish -^scholars attending this uni-i'ei-sii^v, although by no means lack-
"HITLER WITHOUT HITLERISM?"
(From the Jewish Standard, Toronto) O SWIFT and dramatic was the march of events which put the Nazi Hitler in the chancellorship of G^ermany, that the full significance of his sudden doming into power cannot be accurately guaged at this early hour. Hitler, the Brown Shirt demagogue, the leader of the abortive beer-garden Putsch of ten years ago, is chancellor, but Hitlerism and all the violent **anti-semitism which is preached, will very likely not constitute the programme of the government.
It is true that the appointment of Wilhehn Frick and Oaptain Goering, two virulent Nazi Jew-haters, is a serious threat to the safety of German Jewry. Frick, as Minister of the Interior, automatically becomes the head of the national police and if he does not hold in check the half-million Hitlerites, Storm Troops," the Jews will indeed be in great peril. Von Hindenberg and Yon Papen, however, have hedged in the impetuous Hitler with so conservative a ministry that he will be virtually powerless to launch out on his extreme chauvinistic policies. The Jews of Germany are prepared for any emergency.
The Central Union of German Jewish Citizens has declared that it will stand firm against any attempts to abuse the right of the Jews. It is naturally apprehensive of the future, but it has full confidence in President Yon Hindenberg, to Tyhom it now looks for protection against the Nazis, although it is said that the president violated his pledge to the Jews when he appointed Adolph Hitler, the notorious anti-semite, to be head of the new German government. Though it cannot be denied that the situation of German Jewry is grave, we do not believe that is faced by an organized movement to deprive it of its citizenship or root it out of the economic life of the country. - .
The sadistic thirst for violence of the Nazis will be more than ever quenched in the reign of terror which the new regime has already instituted against the Communists. Of course, now and then Jews will be attacked

Achduth Society
The Magillan will 1^ read on Sat-lirday evening, March 11th, immediately following the usual evening service. It will also be read at 9:30 on Sunday morning during the morning services.
A regular meeting of the Poale Zierie Zion was held on Sunday, March 5th. The discussion centred on the co-operation of other societies with the Poale Zierie Zion. Mr. Golden, president of the Poalie Zierie Zion, in an impassioned plea for cooperation by other organizations, pointed out that although the Poale Zierie Zion is in itself an independent organization and is entirely self-supporting, the work carried on by the organization and the affairs organized by it are for the good of the Zionist cause as a whole. The society therefore deserves and expects the co-operation and support of all other organizations in Vancouver. In this respect, may it be mentioned in couuection with the forthcoming Queen Esther Ball to be held at the Community Centre on March 11th, that the proceeds will be devoted to the support of a vital Zionistic purpose. The Poale Zierie Zion, therefore, solicits the patronage of other societies and of the community at large in order to make this Ball a great success in every way. * * *
90 Per Cent of Children In Chicago Without Jewish Education
diseontiniiatlott of - their studies, are nevertheless forced to abandon their promising career through lack of funds.
It is the avoidance of such tragic cases as this that prompted the Young Judea of Canada to place upon themselves, the voluntary responsibility of providing a yearly scholarship for this Institution. Ourselves, students of Jewish life and Jewish advancement, we have taken this means of expressing our solidarity with the youth of Pales-cine and all-those who are furthering their work there and of showing the people of Palestine that we, here in far-off Canada are sympathetic in their reconstruction of .a Jevish environment, that achievements in this Institution are of immediate concern to us.
The three Young Judea Clubs of Vancouver in co-operation with the Avriah Club take this opportunity in requesting the aid of every professed Zionist of each and eery conscientious Jew in Vancouer to enable the local youth; raise their quota in this Dominion w^de "&ani-paign, to show the Eastern centres that this City is second to none in the interests of Jewish peruetiiation.
The Vancouver youth m endeavouring to raise this quota are raffling off a handsome electricoloek generously donated by one of our prominent Zionists. Tickets are now available at an extremely nominal price and may be obtained from any Judean or Avriah - member. Once more we ask the public's support, not on the chance of winning a clock, but to further the career of some brilliant individual in the Palestine University.

For the past six years the Vancouver Achduth Society, although seldom In the limelight, has remained one of Vancouver's most beneficial, organizations. Many local families have felt the paternal support of this society and hundreds of Individuals have found cause to express thanks to this same organization.
