in the light of circumstances to be assured, there is danger, however, that the Jew^ will survive without his .Judaism. The type of Jew who boasts he is proud of being attached to the Jewish people, but who knows very little about what the Jewish people have experienced, is familiar to all of us, and that seems to be the type into which the American Jew is evolving. This, I think, is a great pity. A people that has lived for over three thousand years, that has aspired, that has suffered and created, shall all this have been in vain? Shall the Jew of today live like an upstart, unmindful of the great heritage of the traditions that have been transmitted to him by the generations? To do so is to be guilty of treason to the .past.
But doing so is even in a more realistic sense treason to the present and the future, as well. The path of the Jew is beset by many difficulties. To live Jewishly one must constantly come up against prejudices, discrimination and misunderstandings. The Jew who is full integreated with his past can at least draw inspiration from an Isiah, a Micah, a Rabbi Johanan ben Zaccai, a Hillel or Maimonides. If he has suffered the difficulties in being a Jew, he at least has known some of its compensating joys. He will face the world unafraid. Whatever the world will take from him, it will not take his self respect, his convictions, his vision. Can the Jew who knows his Judaism inadequately face the world with the same equanimity? Judaism to him must be what it was the Heme, a great misfortune. For his own personal salvation, a good Jewish education is indispensable for every Jew.
Does our religious school furnish such an education? I regret that I cannot reply entirely in the affirmative. In the first place, two hours of study a week cannot possibly convey an adequate Jewish training. In addition, we have suffered from a lack of adequate school facilities, a lack of classrooms, all arising from the fact Congregation Beth Israel is still in its infancy, without a home of its own. Without these limitations, however, we have tried to do our best. We shall try in the year that is to come to improve our school, where improvement is possible, to raise our standards, to perfect our methods. But may I not also plead with our parents that we consider the possibility of giving our children a Jewish training that shall extend to far more than two hours on Sunday morning.
I want to thank our children who have come to school so loyally. I wish them a pleasant vacation and hope to see them return with renewed vigor and enthusiasm. I want to thank the sisterhood, that thru its able chairman, co-operated so effectively with the school and helped us achieve whatever measure of success we have achieved. I must not, of course, omit to thank the teachers for their great help and constant co-operations. The entire community owes them profound gratitude for the service they volunteered so cheerfully.
I hope that you have all been well and look forward to being with you again.

Roy "Red" Goodman
Tod has two boys he would like to bring together now for a good fight none other than Roy "Red" Goodman and Joe Ponce with the winner fighting Claude Varner here on the foutrh of July.
Goodman made a great hit with the fans here when he went six rounds with Claude Varner two weeks ago. He gave Varner the toughest fight he has had since coming here and was the only boy to go the six rounds without being knocked out. Goodman says that he was not in the best of condition when he fought Varner before and that with a little training he believes he can reverse the decision. Goodman has been training hard since his fight here and says he is willing to meet Ponce in order to get another chance at Varner,

Twenty-three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ehrony helped to found the present Chevra Kedusha, and have since then been hard working members of that body. To celebrate the event the Chevra Kedusha gave a party in their honor, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ehrony, on Georgia Street, to which the members of the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery Board were specially invited. Every member of the Chevra Kedusha was present and a very enjoyable evening spent. Mr. H. L. Freedman acted as toastmaster and speeches were given by Rabbi Jaffe, Rabbi Pastinsky, A. M. On Sunday last the Vancouver Young Judaean, in conjunction with all the other Zionist units, held the initial installation of their present executive. The main attraction of the evening was a vivid description of Palestine by no less an authority than a recent tourist through our desired Homeland, Mr. Wm. Zimmerman. To an unexperienced youth whose knowledge of foreign countries is meagre indeed, Mr. Zimmerman's speech during the course of the lecture conveyed an astoundingly vivid portrayal of conditions in Palestine. Members unite in thanking Mr. Zimmerman for enabling them to obtain such a remarkable first-hand picture of Palestine.
The Young Judaeans have decided to continue their edition of the "The Judaean." The local club is fortunate to have amongst its ranks a promising printer, Bill Simmons. Mr. Simmons has obtained the use of a hand press and in future he assures us that every edition will put to shame many Judaean periodicals already in circulation for many years throughout Canada.
In order to provide a more substantial programme at meetings, the Judaeans have divided their club into foiir units. At each meeting one of the units will present the programme thus enabling each group to provide an evening entertainment sufficient to the name of Judaean.

After having visited several places the committee for the Judaean outing decided that Whytecliffe would be the most suitable. It is a beautiful spot on the North Shore and has a lovely beach, picnic grounds, and large grounds for baseball^ races, etc. Certain concessions have been granted us including half price rates for the use of the lockers and the row-boats. This outing will be held on July 9. Watch the Bulletin for further particulars.
There will be no further Judaean activities until the close of the high school examinations.

Four Talented Jewish Musicians Heard in Well Rendered Programme
Vancouver Little Symphony Orchestra, an organization of talented young amateur musicians, under the direction of George Coults, gave a concert on Wednesday in gymnasium of Chalmers Church before a large audience which was privileged to hear a programme of unusual interest rendered with technical and expressive competency wholly surprising.
Of chief importance was the performance of the Hadyn Symphony in S. Major, which was rendered with astonishing vitality of tone and acceptable regard for light and shade. The general ensemble effects were well knit, with intonations invariably true and nice observance for incisiv-3 rhythms, and lucid phrasings.
Another acceptable contribution was that provided by Mr. llyslop, Abraham Charkow, and Mr. Laidicr in the Bach Concerto in J). i\Iiiior for two violins and piano. The Jewish players at the concert were MiLcIie 1 Kantor, Nathan Hollislein, Abe Charkow, and Sam Pelman, all pupils of Mr. A. Gramm.
JEBUiSALEM — Great disisatisfac-tion has been ar&used among Palestine JeT»ry by the rumor (whicli se'ems to be well founded) that the Government intends to abolish itihe articles introduced in the new Local Government Bill which extends voting right to foreign subjects. This means that the Jewish voteris will reimain in a minority in the Municipal elections also in the future.
VIENNA—The International Olympic committee voted today to hold the 1936 games in Berlin, as planned, on the understanding there would be no discrimination against Jev^'s.
Delegate Lewald of Germany, chairman of the organizing committee for the Berlin games, pledged that foreign and German Jews would be permitted to participate.

Mrs. Gold especially thanks Mrs. A. Rothstein for the generous loan of her beautiful home and grounds for this occasion.
