Dr. Louis Kracower
We regret to announce the sad death of Dr. Louis Kracower at the age of 27, who was drowned at Seaside, Oregon, by a huge wave which caught him and carried him to his death.
The funeral services were conducted by Rabbi Samuel Koch of Temple de Hirsch, The impressive service of the B'nai B'rith was read by Secretary Irving Lewis of Seattle Lodge. Many will remember the viait of Dr. Kracower to Vancouver when he successfully took part in the International Debate held under the auspices of Samuel Lodge. We extend the sympathy of the Community to the bereaved ones.
In the presence of a large number of relatives and friends on Sunday last, September 10th, Evelyn, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Shugar-man, was united in the Holy bonds of Matrimony by the Rabbi Pastinsky to Maurice, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Kantor.
The bride was attended by her sister Beatrice and the groom by his brother Paul.
A reception was held during the afternoon when many friends called to congratulate the bridal couple, who later left to spend their honeymoon in Seattle and Portland. On their return they will take up their residence in Nanaimo.

A bore is a kind of a man who when you ask him how he is, tells you.— "Pollock",
The fall activities of Samuel Lodge opened with a large and enthusiastic meeting on Tuesday the 5th inst.
Before proceeding with the business of the evening, the Lodge stood in silence in respect of the memory of the father of Brother J. Stone and of the late Mrs. RachaelHalperin.
Congratulations were extended by the President, Brother Myer Potter to P.P. Brother Dr. J. I. Gorosh on his appointment for a second term as Zion Deputy and to P.P. Brother Harry Nemetz on his appointment as District Deputy. The service of both Brother Dr. Gorosh and Brother Harry Nemetz to the B'nai B'rith has extended over many years.
P.P. Brother Norman C. Levin explained in detail the work of the anti-defamation commission. This commission has ten members and meets regularly every two weeks. P.P. Brother E. M. Goldsmith gave a most interesting account of the recent Grand Lodge Convention. The outstanding feature was Judge Golden's masterly address in presenting tlie report of the anti-defamation comniittee; For almost two hours he held his' audience of five or six hundred spellbound while he unfolded the story of ravished German Jewry and the program devised by the B'nai B'rith to cope with the tragic situation. Second only to Judge Gold-en's oration was the comprehensive report submitted by P. G. P. Edgar G. Levey covering the work of the Hillel Foundation during the year 1932-38.
At the conclusion of his report, Brother Goldsmith was presented by the Lodge wiiii a gavel in appreciation of his services in connection with the Pacific North-West Conference.
Primarily through the efforts of Bro. Goldsmith, Vancouver had been selected by the General Committee of District No. 4 for the 1934 Grand Lodge Convention. A large attendance is anticipated and the committee has already commenced its work.
Attendance prizes were won by Bros. E. Healman and R. I. Zien.
The next meeting of the Lodge on Tuesday, September 19th, will be a special meeting for the initiation of twenty-four new members. P.P.- Bro. Jules Ablowitz will be president of the Degree team. Tin initiation ceremony will commence promptly at 8:15 p.m. and will be followed by a smoker, a musical program, and refreshments.
A symposium dealing with the lives of the Jews in many different countries will be held in October and arrangements are being made for debates both with Bellingham and Seattle Lodges.
