A well attended meeting of Samuel Lodge took place in the Community Centre on Tuesday the 3rd.
Eros. Jack Golden, William Panitz and Joseph Rose were Introduced to the Lodge by Bro. Sam Hyman, and the Obligation Ceremony was conferred by the President, Bro. Myer Potter and by P.P- Bro. E. M. Goldsmith.
The thanks and appreciation of the Lodge were extended to Bro. C. W. Swartz for his untiring work and effort which made the recent membership campaign a great success. Primarily through the efforts of Bro. Swartz, 24 members were initiated into the Or'der, and plans are being made for another membership drive in the hear future. We must be united to combat the menace of Hitlerisra and Anti-Semitism and unity of action can only be attained through the one great organization which has consistently and steadfastly fought the battles of our people for almost 100 years —the B'nal B'rith.
P.P. Bro. Morris L. Greene appealed to the Lodge to support and assist the coming campaign to be made by the Community Chest. The following brethren volunteered to help on behalf of the B'nal B'rith: M. Glucks-man, S. Hyman, S. Morris, Y. Hammer, M. Peters, M. Plotkin, C. W. Swartz and A. Toban.
Bro. Sam Hyman reported that the dance held by the Lodge on the night of Yom Kippur had been most enjoyable, and that all present had a delightful and entertaining evening. The thanks and appreciation of the Lodge were extended to Bro. Hyman and his committee for their untiring efforts which resulted in making the dance a success.
The next meeting of the Lodge will be held on Tuesday, October i7th, and will be under the auspices of the Intellectual-Advancement Committee. The feature of this meeting will be a Symposium on the economic, social, cultural, and political life of the Jewish people in various countries. A concise account of the life of our people In Palestine, Russia, Poland, Rou-mania, The Balkans, Germany and many other countries will be given by the different speakers. In additloii, there will be a musical programme.
This meeting is for the members of the Ladies' Auxiliary as well as the members of Samuel Lodge, and will commence promptly at 8:15 p.m.
' On the Campus'
Beginning this week the "Bulletin" will start a new column, if one may call this such, under the heading "On the Campus." After nursing the lofty ambition of becoming a columnist for all these long years we have finally attained it I We have reached the top rung of the ladder of our career! Now we class ourself as one of that journalistic fraternity with Wln-chell, Bouchette, and Butterfleld. Now that I have told you of the future appearance of this column and related my personal desires and ambitions, you may ask what all this is about. A little patience, dear reader I (suspense creates Interest—right, Bess?).
Now that I have your interest (?) I shall tell you that as often as the journalistic muses visit me I shall attempt to give you some (probably erroneous) ideas of what our students are doing at the University. The Editor suggests that I give you the "real dope" on our students, in other words something of news value, so here goes?
First, we notice that most of last year's students are back this year— that is minus our graduates who numbered In the vicinity of six—no five. Then we have three (that's all I can

think of) freshmen. 01 pardon me, and a freshette. I would like to welcome these people into the ranks of undergraduates on behalf of myself and-
well- Nobody In particular, but
that doesn't matter.
We have noticed that these freshies have a common "favorite color"— green—they wear it even on their faces.
Now here is something of| news value (Mr. Editor) I A number of our students and a freshette have condescended to become affiliated with that august "Player's Club" on the campus. However,, the matter does not, unfortunately rest entirely with them, as they must undergo a "try-out". So if you hear anybody mimicking Lord or Lady Teaezle do not do not become alarmed as they are simply learning their best in the "School of Scandal", for the test. That, Mr. Editor, ought to be enough for the first attempt! It is enough? O.K.
Now, dear readers, don't run off to write to the Editor that you don't like this column. Even if you do so, this column will appear for some time.
Instead, I suggest, you write to me, care of the Editor, so that we may write this column together.
I. NOALL.
National Fund
The Committee of the National Fund will appreciate greatly if those who made pledges at the Services on Yom Kippur will kindly send their cheques to the President, K. Katzncl-son, 81 Cordova Street West, or to the Treasurer, Dave Shugarman, 415 Railway Street West.
Pioneer Women Organization
The local branch of the Pioneer Women Organization held Its Initial meeting of the year in the home of Mrs. M. Archeck. All members participated in the discussion, which concentrated mostly in the working out of an Interesting programme for the coming Winter. The enthusiasm shown by the members Inspires one with the hope that their efforts will be crowned with success. Following the business meeting delicious refreshments were served.
The next meeting will be held at the Community Centre Sunday, October 15, at 8.30 sharp. Miss Mildred Osterhout, who returned not long ago from her visit to Russia will be the guest speaker of the evening. Her subject being: "Women In New Social Order," should attract many listeners to whom this question is of vital importance. Everybody cordially welcome.
On Monday evening, October 2, a capacity crowd gathered in the Club rooms of the Community Centre to witness one of the most thrilling debating eliminations yet held in Vancouver. The contest numbered 12 applicants, each putting forth his best ability In an endeavor to be numbered amongst the winning two contestants.
In commenting upon the exhibition, Mr. Paul Murphy, one of the judges 'and an eminent speaker on his own behalf, complimented the entire performance. He remarked that In all Vancouver he had not yet seen or heard of a youthful debating society that held so much enthusiasm and merit.
The team finally chosen, Mr. Harold Rome and Leon Cook, for their efforts will be the recipients of a free trip to either Edmonton or Calgary as the representatives of Vancouver Young Judaea.
On Saturday evening last the local club held a most successful "get-together meeting" to signify the amalgamation of the two senior organizations. After a short business session the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Miss Anne Tucker In her greatest of all songs "Some of these days."
The organization also takes this op-portunlt yof thanking Mr. Dave Ne-metz for the loan of a handsome radiff. Miss Dorothy Goldston for the aid she rendered to the refreshment committee, and the Standard Kosher Meat Market for the generous gift of sandwiches.
The Gym hours allotments have been made and in the future will remain as follows:
7 to 8 (Junior Judaeans); 8 to 9 '(Girl Judaeans), and 9 to 11 (boy Judaeans). The members are requested to be on hand and obtain full benefits of this opportunity.
