MME. MARIE BOOKER FAMOUS CONTRALTO ENTERTAINS COUNCIL
A delightful gesture of friendship to the newcomers in our midst was made by Madame Marie Rodker, Internationally : known Contralto. Upon hearing that the Council meeting for November was to be dedicated to a reception of our -Austrian and German friends, Madame .Rodker consented ot contribute her art' for the pleasure of the guests and members. Madame Rodker opened the season for the Women's Musical Club of Vancouver, is the possessor of, a rare contralto voice of unusual quality and range. .
Madame Rodker rendered' songs by Mendelsohn and Schubert which were delightfully received by the audience:" Mr, Jack- Avisph /acconi-panied Madame.Rodker^
The programme opened with a skit written by, Mrs. E. R. Sugar-man, and enacted by Miss Ruth Koenigsberg, Mrs. T. Goldbloom, and Mrs. A. Cristall. The skit cleverly directed the attention of the audience to the Elsa products, the sale of which bids fair to materially, increase the Council's treasury.
A typical Viennese KoCTee Klautch followed. Coffee; was poured at a long flower decked table by Mrs. L. Halperin and Mrs. B. Shapiro. The guests were seated at small tables and in this congenial atmosphere new ties and friendships were ere-; ated. ..^
The President, Mrs. Norman Brown, introduced each guest separately, and Mrs. Marianne Lourie acknowledged the courtesies of the afternoon for the newcomers.
Altogether this was; one of Council's most outstanding events.
Good^ news for Young Judaea! A real bang-up party (that long promised Hallowe'en one,- 'just a few weeks late) on Saturday, November 11 -rr guess we'll have ; to "call- it a Peace Party. Cards with the time place will be sent out to all mem-bers. So don't forget fellow Judae-ans, if you receive one of these all important: cards, come along as we promise you a .rip-roaring good time.
On the following Sunday, November 12, (if you've got over the effects of the party) you are very-cordially and humbly invited to attend a meeting (we practically have to get down on our knees to get some of you to come along; -well, consider it done and come along). We'll be seeing you at the party.
ery from the illness which overtook Mr. Lesser two weeks ago.
