At the last meeting of Vancouver Lodge which was -exceptionally weU ^ttendledi twelve candiqates were initiated. The Lo^ge degree te^m took charge of the ceremony carrying out their duties in a capable manner. The social evening held on Saturday, November H, proved to be a great sucr cess with many members of Belling-ham Lodge in attendance. It was the largest gathering held in the Community Centre for quite a time.
We ave received the following news from B'nai B'rith headquarters regarding the humanitarian relief work being carried out by B'nai B'rith:
WASHINGTON, D.C.—A draft for $3,000 to help maintain German-Jewish child refugees in Great Britain was cabled by B'nai B'rith this week to London as another step in its overseas refugee aid work.v The previous week, B'nai B'rith contributed $1,000 to the American Red Cross to provide food, clothing and medicines for refugees from the Polish wa,r zone. The $3,000 was dispatched to Julius Schwab, president of District Grand Lodge No, 15, comprising the lodges and auxiliaries in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, which initiated the program of lefugee child care in England and committed itself t» the care of 900 of the 5,000 children brought into the British Isles.
Up to the outbreak of the war, the B'nai B'rith Council for Jewish Refugee Children in London has been spending in excess of $125,600 a year to maintain, house, and educate these children in private homes, schools, and hostels, all of the funds having been contributed .by thie B'nai B'rith membership in Great B^^ The war, however, has impeded the refugee aid machinery in England because thousands of Jews, among them hiin-dreds of members of B'nai B'rith, who had assumed financial responsibility for refugee children brought over before the war, are now In the armed service of Britain, and no longer, in a position to meet their commitments to refugees.
Cognizant of the growing emergen-, cy resulting from this situation, but determined to carry out its obligations, the British Grand Lodge sent a cabled appeal for aid to B'nai B'rith headquarters in Washington. In re sponse to this vagent plea, ah appropriation of ;^,000 from B'nai B'rith's Emergency Relief Fimd was authorized immediately by Henry Monsky, president of B'nai B'rith;

In spite of the lack of discussion, or at least on anything definite, the large crowd that attended foimd plenty to amuse themselves. There was food, dancing and much entertaining "chatter". As a .matter of fact no one seemed to notice the lack of fireside. More of these affairs are being planned for the future.
