DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENTS
A play within a play Is the story of Rudolph Porster, non-Aryan, who once was Germany's most beloved stage and screen character actor. On one of Reinhardt's recent birthdays he sent the Professor a cable saying that although, the Hottentots (of Germany) don't like him he still remains the greatest German theatrical .fifinnre. . . . That cable spelled Forster's finish. . . . Now he is playing the role of a refugee doctor In Sidney Kingsley's new play, called ''The World We Make". . . . And you ought to know also that the splendid sets for this play were designed by Harry Homer, another refugee artist, who Is one oif Retohardt's discoveries and who promises to. become An^er-ica's greatest theatrical designer. . . . "The tale of ex-Viennese Lionel Royce (fionnerly Reiss) comes to iis from Jimmy PidlerJ ... VtThen the Nazis came in he assumed the name Kas-par Brandhoffer and became a popular stage star. ... So he thought he'd teach the Na^ that race doesnt count, revealed his non-Aryanism— and got thrown into concentration camp for his pains. . . . Finally he was' released and went to Hollywood, where he now specializes in playing parts portraying Prussian army officers. . . . Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is going into the caviar business, Hollywood scouts report. . . . It seems that fishreggs are the only valuables the Russians had to offer in exchange
-.......3 Garbo film "Ninotchka"—and
M-G-M- accepted the deal. . . . And don't forget that "Ninotchka" pokes fun at the whole Stalin outfit. . Kurt Weill, the refugee composer, has turned innovator by introducing into a stage show a new type of elec-txic organ, the novachord. . . .

C^onstantin could easily bear this, because he is the studious type, preferring his pipe and a book. ... But what bums him up is the fact that he has to maintain friendly contact with the Nazi Embassy crowd. . . . Edward M, M. Warburg, son of the late Felix M, Warbiu-g and himseli active in philanthropic and cultmral affairs from mom to night—it was he who sponsored the American Ballet some years ago—will soon be married to Mrs, Mary Whelan Currier, one of the editors of Vogue. . . . Our deep sympathy to Mrs. Sadie Abrams of New York, whose son, Sidney Spier, died last week. . . . Sydney was the young press agent who did more than all , his predecessors to make Billy Rose famous. . . . He planted the stories about Billy's marriage to Eleanor Holm in the newspapers while he lay seriously ill in the hospital. . . . Governor Lehman is preparing his exit from politics by giv ing all the limelight to the State's Lieutenant-Governor. . r". Broadway columnists have it that Luise Rainer will marry an important British Government official after she. divorces Clifford Odets, and that Clifford himself Is showing great interest in Prances Parmer. ...
