YOUNG JUDAEANS

On Sunday, September 8, Vancouver Young Judaea held the first meeting of the fall season.. Among the plans formulated were those to secure a gymnasium for general Ju-daean use, and especially for the training of a basketball team to be entered into "Intermediate Church League," and the formation of a Ju-daean bowling team to be entered into a bowling league.
To begin the fall season with a bang, we announce a party to be held on Saturday, September 14, at the home of Harold Weinstein, at 2023 Adanac Street, all couples to be present at 8:30 p.m. Following this social will be held a Roller Skatp-ing Party, the date of which will be announced soon.
On the cultural side, our Educational Chairman, Harold Zlotnik, will arrange a series of talks on subjects of interest to be given by several prominent members of our community.
So all you guys and gals who are interested in our lively grroup, be sure you join the Young Judaeans, the Club that's got the pep I

The Bar Mitzvahof Isadore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Diamond, will take place at the Schara Tzedeck Synagogrue on Saturday, September 14 at 10:00 a.m. The parents of the Bar Miazvah invite their friends and relatives to join with them on this occasion.

The Bar Mitzvah of Isadore, son Saturday, August 31, of Jack, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Lederman at the Schara Tzedeck Synagogue. The Bar Mitzvah delivered his Maftir in a credible manner, following this with a speech in Jewish. Mr. B. Shark-ansky tutored the Bar Mitzvah.
The next evening a party was held at the home of the parents.

We welcome Mr. Z. Schreiner to our Advisory Board and we are confident He will be of great help to A.Z.A., as Mr. Schreiner has led a chapter at Camden, New Jersey, and has had much experience in this kind of work. This winter we will be saying goodbye to six members of A.Z,A. and so this brings light to an extensive membership drive.
Fellow members, every new A.Z.A. member is an increase in our power to help the community. Let's see a lot of new faces on September 15.
JUNIOR JUDAEAN BOYS
The executive of the Junior Ju-daean Boys' Club have been preparing a well-planned program for the coming months which will soon be submitted to the members. This will include: Social events, Father and Son Night, Patriotic Affairs, Prominent Speakers.
The Junior Judaean Boys are going to make this a banner year, and boys of the community between the ages of thirteen and sixteen are invited to join, and they will be assured of a fine time, culturally, socially, and educationally, besides enjoying the comradeship of intelligent clean-cut boys, who are endeavoring to maintain an organization worthy of upholding the best Jewish traditions. BETH ISRAEL REUGIOUS SCHOOL
The Religious School of Beth Israel Congregation held its opening session of the New Year last Sunday morning. All classes will begin their courses of study this Sunday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Registration of new pupils is still open in all classes and Rabbi Cass will be pleased. to welcome them this Sunday morning.
The curriculum of the Religious School is designed to provide a Hebrew and religious education for children from the ages of 5 in the Kindergarten Class, to Confirmation at the age of 15. Parents are urged to have their children, who are not as yet registered, in attendance this Sunday. Every delay means an opportunity lost that never returns. In these days particularly, it is important that parents instil in their children the rich character-building heritage of Jewish tradition.
The Religious School sessions are held on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
COUNCIL NEWS
An Executive meeting of the Council of Jewish Women will be held at the home of Mrs. Norman Brown, 4850 Hudson Avenue, on Thursday, September 19, at 10:30 a.m. A full attendance is requested as there is a lot of business to discuss.
The first regular meeting of this season will be held the second Wednesday in October, at the Community Centre, at 2:00 p.m. This meeting is being turned over to our Camp Committee, who will have a very interesting program to present. Don't forget, October 9.

BIRTHS
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Segal are receiving congrratulations on the birth of a daughter at the General Hospital on September 4.
The Jewish Red Cross Unit is again in full swing with a record turnout of earnest workers at the session last Tuesday.
A supply of Red Cross Buttons has now been received and can be obtained from Mrs. S. W. Chess at a nominal price of 25c. All workers are urged to purchase these Red Cross Buttons as receipts from sale of these are used for the very necessary National Red Cross work.
Under the Convenership of Mrs. H. B. Wagner, the Jewish Unit are organizing a campaign for articles to go to the "Superfluity Shop," proceeds from the sale of which also goes to Red Cross. Such items as costume jewellery, kitchenware, books, etc., used but in good condition are articles desired. Donations to the Jewish Unit can be turned into the Community Centre.
A valuable addition to the Supervision Staff in the presence of Mrs. Jack Moscovich has recently been made. Mrs. Moscovich will be Inspector of Surgical Supplies. * * *
Professional and Business Girls Unit This Unit will resume its activities on Monday evening, September 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Community Centre. ...
Following the recent two-week layr off,' there is considerable, work on hand and all those who have attended in the past are urged to be present. Any other interested persons are sincerely invited to come and do their bit.
Aprons assd individual scissors are necessary.
In future, the Monday evening unit will continue regfularly every week with the exception of the second Monday of each month. At present it will be necessary to.suspend for that evening owing to previous bookings of the Halls.

The first regular meeting of the Junior B'nai B'rith was held September 5, with President Lil Dritz occupying the chair. Past President, Vera Lipson, was presented with a lovely gift by the members of the Auxiliary. Mrs. Sam Izen was appointed Assistant Advisor to Mrs. Glucksman.

Esthed Okulist, Philanthropic Chairman, requests that every member bring her silver paper to the next meeting. Magazines are now being collected to be turned over to the soldiers.
A Membership Drive is now under way, and at the next meeting which is to be held on September 24, each member must bring at least one prospective member. A large turnout is expected at this special meeting as we are again competing for the Martha Shecter Award, which our auxiliary recently won. Each chairman will also give a survey of her respective work.
Another highlight of the evening will be an interesting speaker. Do not fail to attend as this meeting will be both educational and enjoyable. Let's make it a real hangup affair! Come one! Come all! to this super special meeting, and don't forget, bring your friends. ATTENTION SPOBT FANS

Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Freedman have moved into their lovely new home at 708 West 26th Avenue, and it is expected that their many friends will "drop in" and give the place the "once-over," or otherwise, pay their respects to this popular couple.
However, it won't be just as easy as that, for Mrs. Meyer Freedman has decreed that all persons, young or old, brunnette, blonde, red, fair, or what you may be, will have to produce for inspection only, one War Saving Stamp before crossing the Freedman threshold. In these days of patriotism, the Meyer Preed-man's are commended for this ingenious idea, and remember you visitors, be able to produce that War Saving Stamp, or else—well, you will bounce!

It will be noted that in recent weeks Mr. Louis Tisman has been parading around the city with his chest out, and the reason was unknown until it was ascertained through our Secret Service that he is the proud father of a healthy, and as he states, a very beautiful girl baby. All are doing well.

It is reported that Nate Singer was seen buying a new hat on Thursday morning. Nate says the report is cor-;rect but denies that he was purchasing a larger size, but merely getting one of the new season's toppers. The whole misunderstanding, ladies and gentlemen, arose from the fact that Nate played a very fine game of golf on Wednesday afternoon and was low gross in the shoe fraternity competition.
SISTERHOOD CONG. BETH ISRAEL
The opening meeting of the Sisterhood Beth Israel will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 18th, at 2:30 at the Community Centre, preceded by an executive meeting at 1:30. ..There is-a matter of importance to be discussed, which will be followed by an interesting musical program. Rabbi Cass will also deliver a short talk, followed by the usual social hour.

COCKTAIL PARTY
The .charming home of Mrs. Wm. Steiner, 1450 W. 38th Ave., will be the scene of the Cocktail Party to be given by the Council of Jewish Juniors on Sunday afternoon, September 15, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
The executive board, hostesses for the affair, extend a cordial invitation to every young woman in the community to attend.
Up .until the present time ,events sponsored by the Junior Council have proven outstanding successes, and the coming Cocktail Party promises to be even more exceptional. All those attending are assured of a delightful afternoon, in pleasant surroundings, and in stimulating company.
The Junior Council is one of the most outstanding youth groups in the city, and has given of their time and finances to all worthwhile community endeavors.
HADASSAH NEWS
Executive members of local Chapter of Hadassah are proceeding with arrangements for an "Ambulance Tea" to be held Wednesday afternoon, September 25, between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Mrs. A. Rothstein has again graciously consented to the | loan of her spacious home for this; special occasion, and it is expected! that every Jewish woman will come [ and bring her friends and any visitors.
Two ambulances have already been purchased by Hadassah Headquar-' ters and it is sincerely hoped that the women of our community will avail themselves of the opportunity^ to assist Hadassah in making a substantial contribution merited by this worthy cause.
B'NAI B'RITH AUXILIARY
For their first affair of the season, the B'nai B'rith Auxiliary held an "Opening Luncheon" at the Centre on Wednesday, September 11. The luncheon was most capably conven-i ed by Mrs. G. Swartz, who was assisted by various members of the executive and the following hostesses: Mesdames A. Simons, S. Gold, p. Vandt, N. Adrian, R. Becker, S. Morris, L. Zacks.
