B'nai B'rith Ladies' Auxiliary
The local branch of B'nai B'rith Grand Lodge is the recipient annually of a scholarship award known as the D. Solis Cohen Scholarship, which is allotted from a fund willed to assist Jewish scholars at various imi-versities throughout our district.
The grant has ranged from $75.00 to $125.00 and has been used to ease students over financial difficulties; particularly has it been of great help during the depression period.
A few years ago, Vancouver B'nai B'rith Auxiliary, through the University of B.C., loaned silch assistance to a young man who has since made a very successful start in his career.
At the last meeting, which was held on May 2nd, Mrs. M. Potter, local chairman, pleasantly surprised the Auxiliary by the announcement that one of these students had gratefully returned the amount of his scholarship which had been given to him to assist him in the continuance of his studies which he would otherwise have been unable to do, but for such timely financial aid.
By unanimous vote, this sum, amounting to $125.00, was decided to be used for the purchase of three $50 War Bonds with the difference of $25.00 supplemented from the Auxiliary funds. All B'nai B'rith Scholarship grants are made outright gifts to the students without any obligations or pledges on their, part and in cases of this, nature, such refunds are only used for the further develop-ihent and growth of the B'nai B'rith programme.
Members, their daughters and friends, of B'nai B'rith are cordially invited to a Mother and Daughter evening to take place at the Community Centre on Tuesday evening. May 16th, at 8.15 p.m.
