resccnt Park elementary school in South Surrey was filled with parents and children Sept 9, as the Centre for Judaism of the Lower Frascr Valley hosted a make-your-own-shofar program. Under the guidance of Rabbi Falik Schtroks and his wife Simie, participants picked out their raw ram's horn and cut and sanded a new, kosher shofar. □

CJA telethon is a family affair
Super Sunday will feature entertainment all day and a rally for Israel.

This year's Combined Jewish Appeal (CJA) Super Sunday telethon will feature a major face lift, thanks to co-chairs Carrie Marks Chetner and Lana Marks Pulver.
The two sisters have added a family element to the Sept. 23 event and have re-titled it the Family Affair.
While the day-long telethon will cany on as normal, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting at 11 a.m. there will be Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver awareness booths, game booths and various forms of entertainment for the whole family in the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver (JCC).
Highlights will include several film screenings, cooking demonstrations from local caterers, the JCC's Shalom Dancers and music from Klezmer Mombassa. This year, we're raising mon-

At 2 p.m., a solidarity rally for Israel will be held in the lobby of the JCC.
"Israel is an important component of the Combined Jewish Appeal," said Tick.
"Wc want to show the world and Israel that we support them, that we understand what they're going through and how difficult it is to carry on their daily life."
The Family Affair will finish with a special presentation by stand-up comedian Rabbi Bob Alpcr, Alpcr, ^yho has performed across North America and has been titled the Jewish Bill Cosby, will display his comical talents at the Norman Rothstcin Theatre at 7 p.m.
Entry to the fair is free but tickets to see Alpcr's 90-minutc show arc $10. For information, call the Federation office at 604-257-5100. □
