Between Ourselves
LOCAL PHENOMENON: The newcomer to Vanco>uver notioeiS very soon that this city laclcs some of the major elements that are common to the environment and economy of the big cities back east. For example there is only a very small clothing and textile industry in this city. And the newcomer to the Jewish Community will be quick to observe that there are virtually no Jewish clothing

In view of the situation it is a noteworthy phenomenon that back in 1937 when the local clothing industry was much smaller than it is today, the only Jewish clothing worker in Vancouver at that time, Mr. H. Clausner, was elected president of the Vancouver local of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Mr. Clausner still holds that post today and is also business agent of the local which now has a membership of about 500, including seven or eight Jews..
Mr. Clausner, who is a member of the Schara Tzedeck Synagogue, tells us that he learned only two weeks ago that his brother, Joseph Clausner, was a victim of the Nazi air-blitz over London during the war.

CONVEYING THE MEANING:
The Women's Division of the UJA had a problem in nomenclature the other day. They had set up a section composed of the wives of doctors, dentists and lawyers, which they were going to call the "Professional Women's Division." After considering the implications of this name however, they quickly decided to change it to one that is more accurate, if a little more cumbersome. The new section is now the "Wives of Professional Men."

COMMUNITY BACKING NEEDED: The "This is Our Story Group" of the Labor Zionist Organization, have for a long time been doing a creditable job in producing their weekly radio program every Sunday at noon over station CKMO. . . . We understand, however, that they are beginning to face mounting difficulties in the continue.d operation of the program. This program has proven valuable in the past and could be vastly improved as a public relations asset if it became the rallying point for the entire Jewish oommxmity. . . . We have reason to believe that the present sponsorship would be amenable to any practical proposals to turn the program into a community-wide project. It is our belief that the pro-grram would serve its purpose far more adequately if re-organized on such a basis,

Argentina Centre of Nazi Propaganda
VIENNA (WNS)—German Nazi propagandists have made Argentina the centre of their activities, according to informed sources here.
The propaganda in Argentina is being conducted by a number of German and Austrian Nazis who fled the country, among them Otto Skarzeni, former Austrian Nazi leader who liberated Mussolini after he fell into allied hands. Skarzeni escaped) from an American ■prison at Dormstadt. He is editor of "Der ■ Weg," pro-Nazi Buenos Aires newspaper, and he poses as chief of the Nazi international.
Emil Eichinger, a Nazi journalist, is the chief distributor of "Der Weg" in Vienna. The Austrian government has banned sale of the publication and issued a warrant for the arrest of Eichinger, who has been hiding.

friends. Some of the boys were cooking up plans for a grand wedding when they learned that the couple were already Mr. and Mrs,, having eloped to Seattle for a quiet marriage ceremony just before the final exams of the school term, ... A big reception is now being planned where the pipe of peace will be passed around and Efddie will be forgiven by his pals
★ * ★ PUBLICITY PBOBIEM: Bulletin editor Abe Arnold has asked us to pass on a request to the Ha-dassah Chapters to get togther on their publicity, . . . The Youth Ali-yah Chapter sent in a write-up this week announcing plans for a Ha-dassah Convention in Vancouver and stating that the date would be made known later. . . . Henrietta Zold Chapter announced that a convention would be held September 14 and 15. . . . The editor tells us that he was unable to firid out just who is holding what, where and when, because neither correis-pondent put her aa%ie and phone number on the publicity. That's why the regular publicity for these chapters does not appear this week. , . . We are further advised that this is only one example of how some of the publicity being submitted of late is deteriorating again. Maybe it's one result of the general summer slump in commu-nal work. But if an activity deserves publicity it deserves to be done properly. The editor is always reajdy to advisd and assist new publicity representatives(and old ones too) ... A phone call to the Bulletin office at the Centre at BAyview 3711 will" be mutually advantageous.
★ ^ ★ * RADIO OBATOB: Emil Kings-ley, local barrister} who takes a great interest in Jewish communal activities, has been a participant in two radio debates over station CJOR recently. On a recent Town Hall Meeting program, discussing (Jermany. he expressed the view that "German industry should be reduced to a minimum . . . and German economy reorganized to emphasize the development of agricultural and peaceful domestic industries." On the second occasion discussing 'Policy Towards Russia," Mr. Kingsley expresed the view that while "Russia should be stopped by the Allies in the west . . . only Russia can prevent Germany from causing a new tragedy in Europe."
★ ★ ★ COLUMN BATING: We sure
hope this won't go to our head, but in all modesty we would like to report that we are advised by reliable informants that more and more Bulletin readers now turn to the back paere first. A fellow-f-oribe says that its all because of this column and suggests that our weekly stint should be put on a different page m each issue.. . . Frankly we don't like this idea because then we wouid have to or-gnnize a "Lazar Poll" before we could determine cur column I'at-ing. . . .It's nac'i easier Ihis way.
U.J.P.Q. Drama WORkSHOP
Irwin Shaw hsis written some fine plays and books. The play he is best known for is "Bury The Dead." It's theme is. Peace ,and it is no accident that the play is being produced more and more these days all over the continent.
i
The UJPO Drama Workshop hais decided to produce "Bury The Dead" as part of the program planned for si Studio Night earty in the fall. To help make a varied program possible the Shaw .script is being condensed and wiijl be presented in a half-hour version, instead of the original hou^-and-a-half length. The play will be directed by Gary Culhane.
Casting for "Buiy The Dead" has not yet ben completed and a few roles remain unfilled. Technical help is also required for backstage. All those interested should attend the next workshop session Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m., at the Peretz School.
Intensive reading is now going on in search for suitable play material to make up the rest of the program for the studio night. —F. K.
Jew Heads Hebrew Department at Catholic College
ERIE (WNS)—Rabbi Abraham B. Shoulson, a native of Jerusalem and now a resident of this city, has been appointed head of the newly established department of Hebrew, and Middle East studies at Gannon College here, a Catholic institution.
The announcement disclosing the appointment said the new; department was established because the state of Israel "is now a fact and more and more emphasis must be given to Hebrew as a modern language" and because "the course of events has demonstrated the Middle East will play an important role in the future family of nations in and outside the United Nations councils." Dr. Shoulson was named a full professor.
