giving able ambassadorship to the world's largest and oldest Jewish fraternal order on his visit to Van couver last week. During his two-day stay Mr. Goldman addressed open meetings of Vancouver and Lion's Gate Lodges, met with the executives of both lodges, met with the local press, and cut some red tape to make it possible for Vancouver lodge to immediately wire $200 to Winnipeg for flood relief.
Addressing the open meeting of Vancouver Lodge, members of the ladies chapters and friends, Mr. Goldman cited evidence of the growing importance of B'nai B'rith in the fact that Trygve Lie, UN General Secretary, chose the recent Supreme Lodge convention as the time and place of his first public appearance in Washington. It was at the Washington convention that Mr. Lie made his appeal for a 20-years' peace-pact among the world's major powers. Mr. Goldman referred to the fact that the peace campaign started by Mr. Lie had resulted the very day on which he spoke (Tuesday, May 16) in a meeting between the UN secretary and Joseph Stalin in Moscow.
Mr. Goldman praised the local accomplishments of B'nai B'rith, referring particularly to the work of Hillel and to the fine AZA youth movement in Vancouver. Earlier at the dinner meeting with the executive of Vancouver Lodge, he had special praise for Jack Zait-zow, for his outstanding work in improving the position of the lodge as membership retention chairman, and for Bert Doduck, who gave Mr. Zaitzow thie greatest assistance.
The grand president himself has been a tireless worker in the interests of B'nai B'rith ever since he entered AZA. Some years ago when he became membership chairman of District 4, the district had 11,000 members on its rolls. Today it has some 22,000 members.. Mr. Goldman

was honored by beins named na-ticnal chairman cf mezubcfsiiip at the recent Supreme Lodge Convention. Symbolic of the energy and effort he expends for B'nai B'rith is the fact that by the end of his term of ofilce as grand president he will have visited some 85 of the 98 lodges in the district.
Discussing some of the work being done by B'nai B'rith Mr. Goldman pointed out that last year the order's Anti-Defamation League had spent $3,000,000 "to make possible a climate of opinion more receptive to tolerance and goodwill." He recommended the book "A Measure of Freedom" by Arnold Forster, published by the ADL, which documents many facts about racial propaganda and discrimination in the U.S.A. and reveals that the U.S. race-haters between them received some $1,000,000 for their work last year.
He pointed out that while B'nai B'rith is not a Zionist organization it has a long record of aid to Jewish efforts in Palestine and Israel. B'nai B'rith, he revealed, made its first grant of $10,000 for work Jn Palestine back in 1865. The 200th unit of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation was recently established in Israel.
