PAiRlS IJTA)—Dr. Nahum Gold-mann, chairman of the American section of the Jewish Agency,.addressing the European. conference of General Zionists before returning to New York, said that a "co-aJition :is necessary between the Mapai in Israel and the General Zionists in the Diaspora.", The General Zionists,:he, added, must,be "prepared for an honest alliance, which is possible only through goodiwill and mutual imderstand-ing."
Warning against the "dangerous illusion," that |3ionism had "become useless follbwing creation of the state of Israel," Dr. Goidmann said the experience of the Oast two years has shovm that ''Israel alone cannot fulfiU the aim of Zionism— that is, the ingathering of exilesr—.
must be. made conscious of their responsibility towards Israel."
This consciousness, :Dr. Goidmann declared, is "strengthened through political parties which form a ''necessary link between Zionists abroad and Israel." He added: "The cooperation of the Government of Israel with the Jewish Agency must be based on an honest coalition between labor in Israel and Zionists in the XSalut"
Earlier, Dr. Goidmann said that the recent emergency: economic conference of Israel and American Jewish leaders in Jerusalem made Americans aware of the magnitude of the problem facing Israel and convinced them that a campaign in behalf of the Jewish state cannot be conducted merely aiong humanitarian lines but must be based

MONTREAL — The so-called "Stockholm Peace Appeal" has been denounced here in a statement is^ sued by the Canadian Jewish Conr gress.
. /^During recent_ months there has been widely circulated a so-called 'Peace Appeal'," the Congress statement said, /'whose central proposition is that the atom bomb must be banned,. This appeal stemmed from a series of conferences sponsored by communist elements, and was griven: final formulation in Stockholm in March, 1950, by the World Committee in Defense of Peace, a communist-front . organi--zation. This Appeal is but the lat{ est in a series of moves designed to : weaken, the- effectiveness of the democratic nations of. the world, li trades on- humanity's .innate, love of peace >to make it.appear that opposition to Soviet policy with re^ gard to the control of atomic: weapons is tantamount to warmongering. It deliberately omits reference to other necessary conditions for the resolution; of our contemporary problems. ■
The true way of peace is to eliminate the basic causes of conflict. In this connection, the Canadian Jewish Congress endorses the joint statement of Catholic, Protestant and Jewish leaders in the United States that genuine peace requires of every people: (a) renunciation of the use of war or threats of force as an instrument of national policy; acceptance of international agreet ments for the effective reduction and regulation of armaments, in^ eluding atomic weapons, by all nations through a trustworthy systeni of international inspection and control, and loyal adherence to the solemn obligations of the United Nations Charter for the maintenance of international peace and security and the peaceful settlef ment of disputes; and (b) respect for and observance of human rights
i and fundamental freedoms for all as ..well as participation - in positive programs of the United Nations for the conimon welfare and better standard of life,
-"The Canadian Jewish Congress urges the Canadian Jewish Community to give the fullest measure of support to these objectives. In their, genuine pursuit of peace, they should- not allow -themselves to be misled into signing the so-cafled Stockholm Peace Appeal or to join in common effort with those who promulgate it. For that is to strengthen the hands - of the anti-democratic forces/'
