Today we hove the widest abhorrence of anti-Semitism in public, accompanied by the growth of anti-Jewish manifestations by devious and insidious methods^- som^ new and soiTje bid, which pre calculated to disarm the intended victims In pdlvance. -

The questipn of the anti-Semitic portrayal of Jews in literature is also a seribus matter. Famed author Meyer Levin recently analysed this situation in conternporary American literature in an article in the London Jewish Chronicle. We shdil not go into detail on this aspect here as it deserves special consideration in on article by Itself. Suffice it to soy that the method employed often does nbt even state that a character is Jewish but merely draws it asxi Hitler caricature.

f Even Rpn Gbstick. the fonrner Sbdal Creditor and, most infamous prompter of anti-Semitic propaganda in Canada today, makes a pretense at denying his anti-Semitism.' He cprries a blurb on the front page bf his "Can-odion Intelligence Service" which soys: "This publicaHon attocks no man beeouse of his race, but spores no subverter beeouse his race." But by some, mysterious dlcHerny race is a vital ingredient of almost every "subverter" by Gostick's standards arid the race is invariably Jewish. Some of the subterfuges are new, buf the old ^'bilbul" about a "cbm-munist-zionlst plot" cbritinues.
Discerning the methods oiF the.ariti-Sern-ites cgri we hope to combat them by but-shouting, them'and outdoirig them with our own internal witchhunts? Can we "cleanse" bu/selvestb satisfy any of our accusers. For even, this most innpcent act can be distorted to viciousness. Only the other day vile charges were hurled against the Histardrut in. Israel fpr having dared to entertain Lombprdp Tole-dono, the leftist labor leader pf Mexico.
Anti-Semitic aggressors are seeking new ways of becorriing ?espectable. Let us not react in the samer way as of old but seek new methods to combat them. Let us rather trace anti-Semitism to its real source, to the inequality amohg peoples and nations, among races and classes which give rise to the "scapegoat" and "divide and rule" techniques. Let us grasp now, the lesson which our brothers and sisters learned in Europe, bnly^in the final In general these charges speak for them- death struggle. —-A.J.A.
guc of B'noi B'rith and pf such public figures as Felix Frankfurter Pnd Herbert Lehman. In an interview published in the April, 1951 issue of the New York Magazine "Jewish Forum". . Pegler denied that he wds at all anti-Semitic and claimed that "very Jittle onti-Semitism is octuolly proctised," in America, and that in many coses it is "o phobio possessed by mony Jews." ■ ; •■ •
In answer to Pegler's assertion, Isaac Rosengarten, editor of the Jewish Forum wrote an editorior containing an 11-point Indictment of antl-Spmitlsrri In America. We will consider several of them here: :
1. That following ai;i ottack on.severdi Jewish boys, in Boston in recent, months, 25,of their young brethren were orrested when they planned retoliation; however, "none of their Christian aggressors were opprehended by the police."
2.. That o little over o year ago, Jews were attacked in a Chieogo riot, in the presence of the jioiice, "who Of rested the Jews, the vicrims, but not the og-gressorsl"
3. That "provocation to hotred of ttie Jew is continuous in Catholic end Protestant fext-bbbks" with the presentation of the crucifixion story "loaded with hatred agdinst the Je^ in churches of many Christian denominations."
4. That novels portraying the Jew "in o bad light" swomp the country "while the reverse is true when he is pictured ds of good character." , .
5. That onti-Semitic articles, including the forged "Protocols of the Elders of Zion," repudiated by Henry Ford, "ore, at this late dote, reproduced from the "Dearbarn IndepesidsAt" in o Canadian poper, "despite the recent $1,000,000 gift by Henry Ford 11 to the Notionol Conference of Christians and Jews."

Tliis will permit the United States, for the first time, to assist those states directly in building up their def^nsiyp capabilities. The gov-ernniient believes that it is in thi?
