At the beginning of every school term Jewish educators iirge Jewish piarents to give their diildre^^ j^gy^'^ ^education.
Fortunately, there are al-' ready thousands of Jewish parents to whom such appeals are merely a confirmation o:: their attitude toW;ards Jewish education. The Vancouver Peretz School will shortly issue an Anniversary Booklet marking the completion of five year's existence of the School. This booklet will give a picture of the school's achievement in the field of Jewish education. It is our hope that this coming school term wiU be a landmark of greater achievement in this field of endeavour. For this reason, every effort is being made to increase the numbefl" of children attending the school as well as to qualitatively - improve every aspect of school life.

The question that parents ask ib rfegiird to the ^^Perietz School can be j^ummfid up in this way: ""WhAt is it that you want to achieve at the Peretz Schobl and how do'^you go about it?"
To the first portion of this question we give this answer:
It is our aim to develop in Jewish children an understanding of the past and present of our people; of the deep sense of justice and humanism which is inscribed on every banner" of Jewish struggle; of the great contribution which our people have made both to the thinking and the activities of msinkind in their endeavour to improve their way of life. We aim to develop in the minds of children the idea that the contribution our people can make-to our country is de--pendent upon an^ tinderstanding and utilization of our past experiences ' in coping with the problems of the pre^nt. Oi^r purpose is to prepare our children m such a. way that the developing. Cahadian culture wiU be all iie richer because of the inclusion, of the cultural past of the Jewish people.
We set out to accomplish these aims by teaching Jewish history to the children. Here we strive to draw analogies between the
ant fight of Bar Kochba is demonstration of the spirit which motivated the Palmach / and the Elagannah in the recent struggle :or the State oflsraeL Jewish history is made more interesting by including the contemporary history of our people. ■„
We teach our children the Jewish. language---the language which for a thbusand yeai*s has befen the medium of intercourse of our people and which is today the one common' language of most Jewish people. In the higher ^ grades we teach Hebrew which is daily Becoming a more ^yital part of Jewish life, 'ji Our ;cumduiuih 'included a course in Jewish literat.ure; The growing recognition of our rich literature has led to the translation of many Jewish- classics into English. Many more Jewish books will be translated and many more people, particularly the ones born in Canada,, will become acquainted with these works. It is our aim to give the children in the school a knowledge of this subjecti in the language in which it was written. This will make them appreciate the rich idiom of the language and at the same time nmfold before their eyes a great vista of Jewish life stretching from continent to continent.
We teach the meaning of Jewish holidays and celelirate Jewish festivals in an appropriate nian-hei*. We teach our chldren Jewish songs and dances, and perform Jewish plays.
