HAIFA—^The first large group of tourists to reach Israel this season are seen debarking from the luxury liner "Brittanio." Haifa's new deep-water dock hod just i»een completed when the liner arrived. The new dock is part of the development plans for Haifa port being carried out with the aid of a grant of $1,456,000 from State of Israel Bond invest^ menfs. Deep-water cargo wharfs, worehouses and silos, all under construction ore part of the development plan which will expand Hoifo's freight handling capacity to 1,900,000 tons per year. This picture helps to show Israel Bond purchasers how their investment helps the Jewish state. The Bulletin has been asked to re-state some of the pertinent information concerning the sale of Israel Bonds in Vancouver which unf ortuna£ely appeared in garbled form in last week's issue:
Vancouver is the only city where Israel Bonds can' be purchased on budget plan with 10 percent down and the balance to follow in nine monthly payments.
Two types of bonds are again for sale this year. One is the 15-ye'ar dollar coupon bond in denominations of $500 and up, bearing interest at the rate of
four percent (instead of 3% percent as last year). The second is the 10-year dollar savings bond in denominations of $100 and up, with maturity value 150 percent of issue amount. ^
In answer to questions about how Israel will pay for the Bonds on maturity, Mr. Lefohn pointed out that the Jewish state is doing even more than some other countries that have bonds to repay by budgetting against maturity dates. In this waj;^ although bonds may sometimes sell below par when they go on the market, they are certain to be paid for in full on maturity.
Hoshomer Hatzair Kibbutzim Will Take Hired Labor
TEL.AVrV (ZINS)—The Ha-shomer jHatzair kibbutzim are undergoing a revolutionary change which will end a longstanding tradition. They will begin hiring labor for the kibbutzim. Negotiations have finally been sa(tisfactorily completed between the leadership of the Hash-omer Hatzair and the Labor Bureaus and the Ministry of Labor.
The agreement states that employees will be hired on the following terms: for the first six
months a worker ©will receive 40 pounds per / month in salary, in addition to all other facilities supplied to members of the kibbutz, such as food, clothing, etc. Three hours a day will be devoted to the study of Hebrew and other subjects. The worker will receive 50 pounds per month for the second six month period and if he decides to remain there permanentfy, he will receive a bonus of 60 pounds at the end of the first year. In spite of the fact that an age-limit of 40 years has been decided on, there will most probably be no age limitations. The only disqualifying provision will be poor health.
