The Vancouver Talmud Torah issued a statement this week explaining the "Why, What and W^en" of Hebrew education.
WHY HEBREW EDUCATION? said the Talmud Torah statement.
It's as simple as the Alephi, Bet. Without Hebrew education, your children will lose their rich inheritance of Judaism. Your children's happiness depends to a large degree upon fee way they meet the Jewish aspects of their ives. ,
Will it be a well-spring of happiness and enrichment? The an-swe:c depends upon you. Wift you pret)are them to enter upon tl^eir rich heritage or will you disinherit them? Yoti want them 0 grow up into useful citizens; good wholesome human beings. Then prepare them by registering them in the Hebrew school. What will this education mean to them and to you? It will mean that you will keep ^ your children closer to you. That they will share, with you the Jewish life of your family. That they will be instilled with a sense of the continuity of Judaism. That they will develop an appreciation of their life, as Jews, of Jewish ideals and Jewish tradition. And most of all, it w^l give them a sense of "belonging/' a sense of security in the world about them. All of that will spell happiness. Happiness for, them. Happiness for you. They, will grow up well-rounded, integrated personalities.
of the synagogue.
The richness of the Hebrew language and literature.. . * * *
WHEN SHOULD THEY GO? ^ The answer is now! Each year is important in the Hebrew education of your children. Even as with secular education, HiebreW education begins with the preschool child. It continues with a full elementary school courjse. A

The little igirl of today is the young woman of tomorrow undertaking the responsibility of building a hom.e.
What'kind of home will it be?
She will want a Jewish home. She will want to transmit to her children the spirit which she as a little girl found in her parents' home.
Will she know how? Not unless she is prepared. Not unless she is given a Jewish education now.
to the same degree that we do our sons. It is just as important to do that with Jewish education.
For Jewish life centres in the home. It is the woman who is the home builder. How will she be able to create a Jewish honie if she is not prepared?
