YOUPJG AND OLD IMPRESSED — One question being asked was how did Morris Omansky manage to get so chummy with George Jessel. . . . Georgie presented Morris with a big fat cigar, told a tall story .about his new-found friend, and it seems that the result wias - a doubled pledge from Omansky. . . . I^ome-one else at the luncheon who was greatly impressed with Jessel was Jack Aceman's son Paul, age 13, who came with his Dad, and (decided to make a $10.00 contribution to UJA on his own after hearing Jessel talk.
,'-* ' * * BEFORE IT WAS OVER a total of 96 pledsres were made at the luncheon including 34 increases.
DESPITE THE SPEED with which the luncheon was carried out quite a few people got up and left soon after the end of Jessel's talk and while the pledges were being taken. . . . We wonder whether this was out *of ignorance or rudeness.

Israel Fdr^s Badly In Border Clash Reports
UNITED NATIONS — Israel was held . at fault this week in recent border incidents in a report submitted by Canada's Maj. Gen? E.^ L. M. Burns, UN Truce team head.
Most press reports play up Israel's retaliatory raids against the Arabs which Gen. Burns has said are contrary to the Armistice Agreement.
Other reports indicate however that Israeli troops are being frequently provoked by the Arabs and this week the Egyptian-Israel Armistice Commission did condemn Egypt for two attacks against Israeli points on Sept. 7 and Sept. 5.

The exhibition of paintings of Israel by Miss Nina Nahari is now on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Georgia Street.
The fact that Miss Nahari was granted permission to hang her paintings in the Art Gallery is in itself important recognition . of the merit of her works.
Miss Nahari is a Canadian born painter who lived in Palestine for 12 years. Her exhibit is being sponsored here by the Vancouver Zionist Council.
These paintings of Israel have attracted great interest wherever they have- b^en shown. Those who are attending some of the i^iany functions going on locally in aid of Jsr^el, the UJX affairs, the Hadassah conference, and others, are assured- of a reward-ng experience if they take a :U;tle time to see the Nahari paintings of Israel at the Art GaUery. ■

Housing Discrimination
(Continued from Page 1)
versation with one of the staff members he noted a statement to the following effect: "Of course we don't allow Orientals and that sort of thing."
About a year ago the Bulletin had occasion to approach a real estate firm for advertising concerning a certain North Shore property for which that firm was handling rentals. This property was divided into two sections the Bulletin representative was told. In one section Jews were not allowed under any circumstances and in the other they were allowed to rent quarters on good references only. And of course orientals, Negroes, East Indians etc. were not allowed to live on any part of this property.
These are a few of thelexam-ples of housing and real estate discrimination in both purchasing and rental of homes that have come to our attention.
RESPONSIBILITY OF REAL ESTATE AGENTS
^ Real estate salesmen who are checked up on/such practices usually say that they only do it at the behest of the property owners. This may be so in some cases.
l^t if all real estate agents would take a firm and unremitting stand they could certainly influence the entire situation for the better.
We know of at least one case where a real estate agent did not accede to the racial prejudices of a client. This concerns Percy AUman who has often advertised in the Bulletin. Mr. Allman, (who is nbn-Jewish) once had a property listing-taken away from him because the woman discovered that her property had been advertised in the Bulletin and she didn't want to sell her home to Jews.
The Bulletin is pursuing this matter further with the Real Estate jBoard, with the office of the University Endowment lands, and with the other parties concerned. It is hoped that this evidence will be useful in the new campaign to win adoption of a civic by-law against racial discri;nination. In view of the fact that racial covenants are ultra vires according to. the Vancouver Land Registry office, a civic anti-discrimination by-law could also cover housing. Such a by-law should make real estate agents subject to its. provisions, in addition .to all other types of enterprises doing business with the public in this city.
