The annual Histadrut drive in<$^ Alberta was successfully launch ed in Edmonton la<st Sunday and in Calgary on Wednesday, with Ben Zion Ilan, guest speaker, and Marcel Kaufler, guest artis sparking the opening affairs in botii cities. IN EDMONTON, under the 'chairmanship of Mr. I. Garfin, i is hoped that the community participating will be substantially increased this year. Harry R. Cohen, member of tlie Beth Israel Board of Trustees recently presented a painting on a Jewish theme to Rahbi L. N. Ginsburg to be hung in the synagogue study. The presentation was made in memory of Mr. Cohen's ^parents, the late Jacob and Sarah Cohen.

First Bos Mifzyoh At Beth Shalom
Edmonton — Barbara Shuler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Shuler became the first Bas Mitzvah at Congregation Beth Shalom, on Friday night February 11. Barbara chanted the Haftora of the week, delivered her Bas Mitzvah message and received the charge from the rabbi. Following the service the Beth Shalom sisterhood served the Oneg Shabbat in honor of the Bas Mitzvah, her parents and her grandparents.

John Fisher, noted radio personality, will be the guest speaker, and Roy Brookbank, western director of the council of Christians and Jews will present the charter.
Sharon Zionist Club Backs Essay Contest
CALGARY—The Sharon Zionist Club of Calgary is sponsoring an essay contest for pupils of the Hebrew School, in connection with the Herzl Year Celebration. Pupils from grade 3 and up will be eligible to participate by writing Hebrew compositions, stories or poems on the life and work of Dr; Binyamin/Zeev Herzl.
The following prizes will be awarded .by the Shafon Club for the best contributions:
Day Schjjol Hebrew books will be awarded for the best 3 contributions.
Evening. Classes, 1 cash prize of $10.00 and 2 cash prizes of $5.00 will be awarded for the best contributions in the evening classes.
Messrs. Nathan Safrari, Frank Kqttner, Yjale Jpffe and Dov Chettner will serve as judges.
In addition a number of pupils of the Calgary Hebrew School are participating in the Herzl Essay. Contest sponsored by the Zionist Organization of Canada.

GOLDEN AGE CLUB—A '*Sim-cha" to top all "Simcfaas" was experienced at the Golden Age get-together on Monday afternoon, January 31 when charter members, Mr. and idrs. Adolph Kaplan celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. The joyous occasion was enhanced by the presence - of the couple's two daiighters, Mrs. L. Feinstein and Mrs. Ida Brickman, and granddaughter, Anna.
An appropriate toast to the Bride and Groom was proposed by^ president Mr. Katz, after which everyone sang and danced in Honor of the celebrants. Mrs. Clare Osippv, a very popular per-fomier yrith the Golden Agers, delighted her listeners with beautiful Jewish Melodies, assisted by, Mrs. Helen Osipov at the piano. Refreshments, including a beautiful decorative anniversary cake cpmpleted the very happy afternoon. —

entation of "Me and Moflly", B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation at UBC is this year . again running a scholarship compAition for its campus members.
Recipients of these scholarships /will attend a ^ummer camp either at Brandeis,.'California, or Starlight, Pennsylvania. There they will receive intensive education in the religious and cultural aspects of Judaism, under well kn6wn lecturers and instructors.
B'nai B'rith Hillel has in the past sent a considerable number of students to these camps with quite satisfactory, results. The students, after returning from the campus usually undertake some kind of community leadership work. The investment in these
high returns to the Jewish community of Vancouver.
Donors to the scholarship fund will becdme patrons of the Hillel play and their names wiU appear on the play program.
Norman Loomer is chairman of a committee organized to collect money for the scholarships. He is assisted by Bud Gervin, Morley Kaufmann, Norman Levin pnd Leon Tessler.
Applicants for scholarships will be judged on the basis of leadership potential and participation in Hillel activities.
Last year four scholarships were awarded. Recipients were Jerome Angel, Danny Goldsmith, Larry Rotenberg and Jeanette Stlber.

MONTREAL — HARRY H. ROSEN, aged 58, formerly of Vancouver passed away January 30, in Montreal. Mr. Rosen was a resident of Vancouver for eighteen years, and was a member of he Vancouver Lodge B'nai B'rith and the Beth Israel Synagogue. He is survived by his wife Goldie.

CALGARY —MORRIS FRIEDMAN, 61, of 624—15th Ave. E., died February .1, in the General Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Friedman, who was born in oland, came to Calgary 33 years ago and operated Friedman Meat Shop.
He is survived by two sons, William and Leo; two' daughters, Mrs. J. B. Sklar, all of Calgary, and, Mrs. Percy Goldmintz, Toronto; a grandchild; tyfo bro-hers, Nathan, Calgary and Osias, Idmonton, and two sisters, Mrs. Ai J. Feldman and Mrs. Sol Dvorkin, both of Calgary.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, February 2.

RABBI KOGEN TO ADJDRESS KHVANIS AND ST. PAUL'S
Next Monday evening, February 14, Rabbi Kogen will speak to the Richmond Kiwanis Group about his recent trip to Israel. Rabbi Kogen has addressed the Richmond Group several times in the past giving introductions to Jewish life and Israel.
Rabbi Kogen will speak to St. Paul's Anglican Church groups, under the sponsorship of the Young People's Association of St. Paul's, in the Parish Hall of the Church next Wednesday, February 16. The topic-of the evening will be "Introducing Judaism."

Israel Trade Group Visiting China .
JERUSALEM—The trade delegation which left recently for China arrived in Hong Kong on January 28, ' The group is touring the country for two weeks and will then proceed to Pei-ping to negotiate a trade agreement. The ^delegation is headed by David Hacohn, Israel Minister to Burma and includes Dr. Daniel Lewin, director of the Asian Department of the Israel Foreign Ministry, Moshe Bejerano, manufacturer's representative, and Joseph Sarchina of the Ministry of Trade.
