LETTER FROM ISRAEL—"It
is a pleasure to me to thank you for the nice pack that you sent to the kindergarten in our Mo-shav. I especially want to thank you because all the things you sent are very useful and came at the right timeT—the first day of the New Year in the kindergarten. ... I will try to tell you something about our Moshav. Its name is "Ranan"—which means; "to sing"—and it is about 20 miles from Bar-Sheva, the capital of the Neffev. Most of the people are from Egypt — who came here about four years ago and have already started to build their farms. A few days ago about 30 new families arrived from Morocco. We have about 30 kids" in the kindergarten—in ages from three to six, but now that number will double because the newcomers have a lot o "kids". I want to thank you again and again for the pack Sincerely yours, Shoshana Mak-ler, teacher. . . . The foregoing letter was received by the Vancouver section. National Counci of Jewish Women, in apprecia-ion of the materials sent from he Israel Nursery Shower held here by the organization some ime ago.

feudalism to capitalism. He spoke about the Haskolah movement, which for Jews was a reflection of this." Also "the concept o: Zionism arose at the time when people everywhere were fighting for nationhood."
"The land of opportunity proved a greater magnet than the land of our fathers in the early history of Zionism," he maintained. He cited figures on the rise of the Jewish population of r^ew York in the last 75 years. Mr. Chudnovsky drew attention to the fine contribution of the Jews of America and Canada to the life of the country—culturally, economically and socially.

munity trends and problems, given personally by spokesmen for each centre. There will also be a symposium assessment of "The Canadian Jewish Cortimun-ity Today" by five top national Congress leaders. ^
Sol Kanee of Winnipeg, Congress national vice - president, will participate in the symposium, together with Prof. Jacob Fin-kelman, national public relations chairman; Lavy Becker, national education chairman and Eastern Region head; Michael Garber, QC, vice-president of Congress , na-jtional executive, and Saul Hayes national executive ^director. •
Every opportunity for participating in discussion will be provided the delegates, particularly in the • "communities sessions."
Heading the delegation of national leaders will be Samuel Bronfman, national president, who will address the special conference banquet Sunday, March 13, at whidh the 1955 Calgary Jewish Welfare Fund campaign will be launched.
Particular interest is anticipated in the address to be given by Dr. Prinz, who is rabbi of Temple B'nai Abraham in Newark, N.J. Originally from Germany, Dr. rinz won a world-wide reputa-ion for his fearless leadership of German Jewry in the early years of the Nazi regime. From his' Berlin pulpit, and in sermons all over Germany and Europe, he opposed the Nazis. He was frequently arrested by the Gestapo until finally expelled from Germany in ld37.
On leaving Germany he accepted an invitation from the late Dr. Stephen S. Wise to come to^ he United States, where for two years he lectured in hundreds of communities from coast to coast, as well as in Canada, until he was elected to his, present post as spiritual leader of the largest congregation in New Jersey.
dren of registered members of the Jewish conunimity for one or two hours a week in state schools upon written application.
The Aguda leader also reported that the Prague rabbinate maintains Jewish ritual slaughter, runs a kosher communal kitchen, and a ritual bath, all supported by the state. Czech Jewish officials are paid by the state.
Asking about Bar Mitzvah preparation he was told "they had no boys of that age; that none had returned from Auschwitz or Mainenek extermination camps; that all the children in the Jewish community were born after the liberation of 1945."
In Hungary, said Mr. Goodman, the situation was more satisfactory. The estimated number of Jews in the, country is about 100,000.' Recently 110 exit permits have been granted to Jews, mostly elderly, gind an equal number had been granted o elderly non-Jews.
Thousands of Jews are not registered wfth the Budapest Jewish community, he said but many of them attend synagogues a distance away from their own homes because "nobody knows how the wind will blow." He found 500 children receiving instruction in the Talmud Torah, and there were also 150 students at two Yeshivas who were exempt from military service. The government recently permitted establishment of several orthodox cooperatives to provide employment for Sabbath-observing Jews.
