190 delegates, representing nearly 100 NGOs, attended the Conference whose main subject was the discussion of Unesco's program for 1957-58. Ways and means of improving co-operation between Unesco and other Non-Governmental Organisations were also reviewed.

He had been pleased to see during the Conference some manifestations of the spirit of boldness and independence which should always guide their deliberations and he felt that it was the task of the NGOs to act as the conscience of Unesco.
Dr. Riegner, who will preside at the Sixth Conference of NGOs at Unesco, succeeds Dr. J. R. Rees, Director of the World Federation for Mental Health.
