Ifoice of ihe^^^^S
BY sopnm tisMjmuajss
A sound disturbs the stillness of the air» A standing sound of piecing joy and pfid^, A voice whose loild and strident notes now dare Rise up unfettered o'er the whol^ world wide.
The Shofar's voice proclaiming a New Year, As it had summoned thousands gone before. Heard by the generations who still bear The lighted torch of faith then* fathers bore.
Today it sounds with triumph in its voice > And triumph echoes in all answering hearts ^ As they receive its message to rejoice ^ And know that with its call a New Year starts.
For in the land where first the Shofar called, Its ancient heritage is bom anew. The scribes of History mark down enthralled The dazzling giant record of so few./
Where grass was never seen—now forests grow Where baiten desert stretched—ftoW Water flbWs * Where all defense was hope—^nqw strength imeets Where once a people stpod-^a nation grows.
So clear and loud the Shofar's notes ring out While dreams from ages past sink low and flare. The voice which kindled hope and banished doubt, Tradition's voice calls in another ye6r! •
