Teener time' program for 12-14 year olds begins Sun., Oct. 13

The most important news to ^come out of the Jewish Commun-'ity Centre for several seasons is the announcement heralding the develppnient of a fiiH program of activities for all 12-14 year olds, on a scale equivalent to that offered in most larger centres.
Members of the 12-to-14 year old age group are from now on to be referred to.as members of the ten-tre's Teener Division. Activiti^ for these members will take place every second Saturday, beginning^ Qctober 13. From' this date on, every second Saturday intheX^en-fre, from 6:30 till clositi^ tinii^ wUl be kiK>ws as
•Teener Time," with aU the facilities of the Centre being put at the posal of members of the Teener^Di-vision.
Teener Time will feature special activities from 6:30 till 7:30 p.m.; club meeting from 7:30 till 8:30
p.m.; and canteens (social programs) from 8:30 till closing time.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Under this heading come such activities as dance instruction is. ballroom dancing, jive. South American and folk dancing for bpys and girls, lectures, discussions, and demonstrations on siich topics as poise and posture, makeup, hairdo's and don'ts, and sb-etching '. the clothing budget dollar jfor girls featuring home economists, interior desi^ers, mo/dels, and fashion experts > and lectures, discussions; demonstrations, and movies on nijgby, basketball, fai^k^y, track and field for boys featuring Well known sports personalities. iTie first of these activities-will be held October 27.

Any group of not thaa d^t add not. more tfian 12: friends who are members of thi& Centre's Teener Division can' form a Centre Club. Clubs will be provided with counsellors, whose job it win be to help clubs plan activities that club mem' bers will enjoy.

Beth Israel storts Youth program
USY or United Synagogue Youth is a new youth organization in Vancouver. It is the national teenage movement of the United S y n a g o g u e of America, the Conservative Movement of Judaism. Its official aun is to promote Judaism among teenagers and to provide thejii with a positive synagogue program of activities.
The USY Chapter of Beth Israel Congregation began its activities this year with a well-attende^ "Get Acquainted Dance" in the Maccabee Room of Beth Israel on Wednesday, August 29.
Over 80 teenagers crowded into the Chapel on both mornings of Rosh Hashanah to attend USY High Holy-day services directed by ^b Markin. Lorilee Mallek delivered ah inspiring sermon on her visit to Israel. Prayers were read in Hebrew and*in English and the Haftarot were ctianted by Edward Korbin and Joel Levin.
The USY Yom Kippur Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel and will be directed by Brian Wine.
The first organizational meetings of USY were held on Sunday, September 9. Over 100 teenagers gathered in the morning and in the evening to elect executive/ officers for two divisions.
Elected to office in USY Chapter Aleph, 13 and 14 year old division, were the following teenagers:
President, Bob Lactermai^ vice-president, Elaine Wall; secretary, Nadiiic Flax, and treasurer, Edward Korbin. Bob Markin spoke to Chapter Aleph with great enthusiasm on the wonderful time had by USYers at USY Camp held at Echo Lake. Washington. "The Juggler,^' a fall length movie depicting the dramatic story of a new immigrant^ adjustment to life in Israel was shown and 10 beautiful Israeli prizes were distributed as door prizes.
Rabbi Bert A. Woyth^er greeted the senior division of USY and Jack Horowitz spoke on tlie topic, "What Can USY Offer You?" Elected to office in the senior division were the following members:

Freyjt Genser spoke to the senior division on USY camp.
A special USY Friday Night Oneg Shabbat Will be held at theJBeth Israel on September 28 at 8:15 p.m. Refreshments and Israeli dancing will follow the service.
Youth dffairs
TAMAR BB6 wiU hold an executive meeting on Tuesday, September 18 at 7:15 p.m., at t^ home of Roberta Levinson, 1395 W. 57th Avenue. Gym will start on Thursday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the King Edward High School at 12th and Oak. The next general meeting will be held at tiie Centre on September 23 at 2:00 p.m.
Teener Time. Any club that jjas at least one social, one athletic, one educational, one community projectj and one social program during. the year will become an Honor Club in the Centre. Members of Honor Clubs will be able to obtain Honor Club Awkrds—crclsts tiie first year, pins the secbnd year and rings the thfrd year.
