Jewish Congress tendered a luncheon to Jacob Glatstein,'. the noted Yiddish writer and poet, on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. A composite volume of his poems—^the fourteenth book of the author—^is to be published shortly.

YOUNG JUDAEA held its firs meeting recently for the season 1956-57 with an excellent turnout of approximately 200 children . . . There will be 12 groups, divided according to age, and composed of Junior, Intermediate and Leadership-in-training sections ... An extensive program is planned for the coming season-swimining instruction from a qualified Red-Cross swimming instructor, as well as other sports^. A gym and a pool have been rented for the season. Other activities will include a Judaean paper, arts and crafts, Hebrew dancing and singing, Oneg Shab-bats, etc.

The leadership-in-training group is the first of its kind in B.C. to receive lectures covering that period of Jewish history which commences with the Bilu Movement and continues through the Aliya, the Dreyfus Affair, Herzl, The British Mandate and ends with the State as it is today. They will also be taught how to counsel children so that .they will have the necessary background for leadership at different camps throughout Canada and the U.S. . . . Pioneer Women's Organization held j was installing officer. Mrs. Marion
Margplis presented the president's report and Mrs. Helen Garbovitsky gave the financial statement for the past year and reported that the quota for Vancouver was raised successfully.
During tlie installation ceremonies several member's names were inad-vertedly omitted among them being that of Mrs, F. Steele, a new member of Senior Group who is telephone and sunshine chairman.
The second half of the program was a farewell to Mrs. C. Margolis who has been selected as a delegate to the Leadership Seminar in Israel.
Mrs. Margolis will be one of 10 members of Pioneer Women from tJSA and Canada who will attend, and she will be in Israel for two months.
Greetings were extended by Mr. B. Victor on behalf of Histadrut, and a telegram was received from the Habbnini Parents Group.
MRS. LORNE CURTIS who is co-convener With Mrs. N. Samuels of the Talmud Torah P-TA Fall Tea, taking place Wednesday. October 24 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. A. Rothstein, 1625 West 37th Avenue. There will be a sale of home baking.

GLENEAGLES GOLF CLUB
members held a very successful socia week at the Golf course . . . Ladies day last Tuesday saw the Runge Trophy won by Marion Wasserman with a net 109-30=79 followed <ilosely by last month's winner Alice Kalensky and Tess Waterman . . . Sunday morning the men took part in a Meda competition. Aser Rothstein won low gross honors with 77 followed by Roy Kantor, Morris Belkin and Dave Sears. Low net winner was Dr. Norm Hu-schberg with 87-23=64 with Dave Franks and Morris Belkin sharing runnerup honors with net 66's. . Sunday afternoon 40 players took part in a popular mixed foursome which was followed by Thanksgiving dinner and a movie, orrie Jarvis and Elsie Harrison won with a gross' 47, followed by Sam Wasserman and Elaine Charkow with a 48 and Dr. Len Fratkin and Ann Jenkins with a 49 . . . "Hole of the ^ Week" was won by Dr. Murray Krasnoff eagle three on the long par five fourth . . Next week's events: Ladies Day Tuesday, Par Points Competition, Men, Sunday, Octob-r 14, Scotch Foursome, Men, Sunday, October 21, Fourball Best Ball Team. Championships. The same teams used, in the Scotch Foursome will compete in thi$ event. Consult Mel White at WEst-more 3-9701 for your starting time. . . . Reservations are now being taken for the Hallowe'en Hoe Down, taking place Saturday, October ,27 at the Club House. These will be limited to insure a good time for those who attend. . . .
