The figures also reveal that Ontario, for example, received 659 Jewish newcomers in 1956. According to a recent Canadian Jewish Congress report, a total of 1,800 Hungarian Jewish refugees have reached Toronto so far this year, plus another 140 Jews^from North Africa. New CITiZENSHIP law IN HUNGARY
LONDON (WJA)—'The new Citizenship Law contains no provisions for the cases of those who left Hungary since October. There are no regulations in force, nor dp I know of any plan, to deprive Hungarians living abroad, or having left for abroad after October, of their Hungarian citizenship." This was stated at a press conference by Laszlo Gyaros, a spokesman of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Budapest radio reports.
"However," Gyaros v/ent on, "the new laMf provides that those who are guilty of a grave breach of loyalty or who have been convicted of grave crimes by a Hungarian or foreign .court may be deprived of their citizenship."
Slayia- Bennett, this year's director of Habonim Camp Miriam, is scheduled to arrive in Vancouver this weekend. \
Miss Bennett, a graduate teacher with a B.Ed. from the University of Minnesota and training at Columbia University's Teachers College and the Jewish Theologicar Seminary, will remain here until the beginning of September. She then'plans to return to Minneapolis' for a few months before she leaves for Israel.
