vealed last week when it was^ reported that a fire, started at the gas site in Be'eri by a test drili spark, / had been extinguished after burning 24 hours.
It was also reported that a hew oil well had been brought in at the Heletz Field, 30 miles south of Tel Aviv, and another 6ne in ^he Bnir Field about a mile and a half south of-Heletz. They bring to 21 the number of wells so far in the two fields which have reached iproduction at the rate of about 600,000 ban-els a year, about sis per cent of Israel's total petroleum requirements.
The fire at Be'eri, in the Western Negev about 11 miles south of the Heletz field, was extinguished, by an Israel Air Force plane using a high pressure spraying apparatus. Flames rose more than* 120 feet and could be seen 10 miles away. The Tel-Aviv and Lydda Airport fire brigades had fought the flames without success.
After the fire was extinguished, the gas flow was capped until further tfests can be made of pressure, content arid possible commercial utillza-tioDf. .
