approach to Israel, while many Israelis take a negative approach to American Jews.
The ideology on the basis of which the links of European Jewry were developed with Palestine has to be re-written, he indicated. It is a "wrong tendency" to take Zionist philosophy and write in "America" in place of "Poland" or "Germany," Eban declared.
Calling for a need for greater Israeli understanding of American Jewry he said: "We must become re-concUed to a burning zeal from 6,000 miles away."
At the same time, however, he strongly suggested that young American Jews who come to settle in Israel and participate in its historic development could find something there which cannot be found here because the U.S. has passed that stage of development.
Mr. Eban will be returning to Israel after several farewell functions in New York and Washington.

AMERICAN AID TO ISRAEL STILL BEING CONSIDERED
WASHINGTON—Efforts are being continued in United States Congress to restore Israel to the list of countries receiving grants in aid. Aid to Israel during the last fiscal year totalled $7,500,000, which is probably the amount she would receive if certain criticisms involving the State Department were to result in the restoration of the previously discontinued aid.
Some senators are opposing the nomination of Ogden Reid as ambassador to Israel, among other nominations, which has led to general dissatisfaction with matters involving the State Department, though the two issues are not directly linked.
