PLEASE PLEASE take note that there will not be an issue of the Bul-etin next week. Rather than merely admire the editor's tan, the rest of the staff intend to try and acquire one themselves, and are taking a week's holiday. There will be someone in the office to answer intelli-;ent(?) questions and take money, of course.

Russian popular at Hebrew U
JERUSALEM — Forty students are at present enrolled in four Russian language courses at the Hebrew University—exactly ten years after the subject was first introduced as part of the general studies program for undergraduate students.
Actually not only undergraduates are participating in the courses but also a large number of graduates and members of the academic staff who wish to perfect their knowledge of Russian, in view of its importance in scientific literature.
The courses (two for beginners, and one each for intermediate and advanced students) are being conducted by Dr. Vera Doljansky, a noted Russian scholar (widow of the late Dr. Leonid Doljansky, head of the University's Department of Experimental Pathology, who was killed in the attack on the Mount Scopus convoy in 1948). The beginners' and intermediate courses are concerned with Russian language only, while advanced students also study Russian literature. Only a few students are of Russian origin, but quite a number are new immigrants who studied the language at school and in universities in Eastern Europe.
This year the University was able to obtain from Russia foi* the first time not only the required text-books but also sufficient numbers of copies, which would appear to indicate a change in the attitude of the Russian educational authorities towards Russian studies at the Hebrew University.

Mopam daily condemns
Soviet press attacks
TEL AVIV (WJA)—A strong condemnation of recent anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish articles in the Soviet press was carried by 'Al Hamishmar', daily of the left-wing Mapam party.
Although much in Russia had changed for the better since the 20th Congress of the Communist Party, the paper says, there has been no change in Moscow's attitude to Israel and the rebirth of the Jewish people. It is hard to believe, writes 'Al Hamishmar*, the malice and viciousness with which the Soviet press disseminates lies and slanders about Israel. There is only one consolation, and that is that these very attacks are evidence that the authorities are being forced to resist a will
