Here and there -- "Miss" Miriam Breitman (here to sing for the recent Histadrut banquet) has three children! She also has a glorious voice and anyone not present that Sunday evening missed a rare treat. However, Lazar bought her new recording fissued in Winnipeg, by Dominion Records) and is able to listen to her at his leisure now. Miriam's Hebrew is so excellent that when she lived in Israel for seven years, she was always taken for a singing sabra. — Congrats to Sue and Sam Malkin on the opening this weekend of their Eraser street department store. Look for the familiar name "Malkin's" on Eraser now. — The Chug Ivri meets next Wednesday, 8.30 p.m., March 7, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Biely, 4277 West 12th. — Lazar is reminding you to have a Centre Chain Party soon. Don't be a missing link, you should excuse the expression.

Victoria vignettes — A small dmner party was held for Mona and Sam Kaplan at the gracious • new Tally-Ho dining room in Victoria prior to the community meeting at which they spoke. A lively discussion period followed the Kaplan's program. Also present at the Temple Emmanuel were a half-dozen non-Jewish friends of members of the Victoria Jewish community who had many stimulating questions to ask the two guest speakers. The Temple's venerated 7()-year-old Chuppa cover has on it an extra-cornered Mogen David with an eye in the middle of it. Does anyone happen to know the; significance of this eye Or whete it originated? — Regards^ to tTatiV couver friends from all Victoria community members present last Siinday 'evening, particularly from the I.ibbys, Brickers, Alexanders, Krasneys, Roses, senior and junior, Mrs. Mallek and -the Barers. Aileen Barer, of course, i.? The Bulletin's . Victoria "reporter" — The new Imperial Motor Hotel, incidentally, is all it was reported to be in The Bulletin when it opened a short while back.

The poetic bug is catching — Besides the New Centre Chain Party gals who went poetic on us, the Farmer's Market this Sunday has inspired Mrs. Sid Harrison to wax eloquent. This is her air on the fair:

Brotherhood meeting — On a small scale late last Saturday evening was squeezed into the busy weekend schedules of both visiting concert artist, Marian Anderson (see picture story this week) and Mona and Sam Kaplan of The Bulletin. The Kaplans found Miss Anderson a true lady, radiating warmth^ of personality and a good* deal' of charm. Unforgettable: her enormous dark eyes full of depth and perception.

LONDON—An estimated one-third of Algeria's remaining 110,000 Jews are prepared to remain in an independent Algeria under Moslem rule, the weekly Spectator declared here.
The report said that the one-third was made up largely of Jews living in secondary Algerian cities of 50,000 to 75,000 inhabitants which have been relatively tranquil in the broiling battle between European elements seeking to keep Algeria French and the FLN Moslem underground.
