Twp hours away is the historic tourist niecca of Kailua-Kona, one-time playground of

From the Kona, Kamuela or :Hilo airports, a 30-minute flight takes you to Maui, the Valley Isle, which is located almost midway in the island chain.
Dominated by famed Halea-kaia, a 10,000-foot dormant volcano, the Valley Isle was once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It abounds in historic and scenic attractions.
In Lahaina, the former capital on the west shor« of the island, is century-old Lahaihaluna
paper in the Pacific area was printed. Once the whaling center of the Pacific, it is here too that one of the first missionary groups landed in the early 1800's.
