Vienna retains look of lively bygone days
Vienna is a city with a character all its own.
Located midway between the source and mouth of the Danube, it is one of the most attractive cities in Europe, for,
despite the impact of the present, it has wisely determined to retain as much of its glorious past as possible.

mosphere. Traditionally a lively place full of gay, light-hearted people, the city has long been regarded as the centre of a vital intellectual climate. Museums snd archives, churches and palaces, wide avenues and wonderful parks all tell of a cultural heritage founded on centuries of tradition.
Vienna really knows no best season. .
September sees the opening of the main opera, concert and theatre season. Fashion shows, sporting events, the famous fun fair in the beautiful Pra.ter Park, vintage festivities on the outskirts of the city, drives and walks through the Vienna Woods, climbing on the slopes of the Schneeberg and Rax mountains which border Vienna are just some of the ways of enjoying the fine days of Fall.
Although there are many fine restaurants specializing in foreign foods, it is wise to try at least a few of the typical Viennese dishes. Viennese cuisine has become famous throughout the world and Wiener Schnitzel, Gulyas and Apfelstrudel are known in any language.
You can have one of the finest meals in the world, with wine or beer, for $2.50 or less, in such historic quarters as the Liesinger Stadtkeller. It is worth noting that restaurants display their menu and price list in the window or beside the entrance.
Vienna is an easy city to get to know. A circular boulevard called the Ring runs in a semicircle from and to the Danube Canal, enclosing the Inner City. Enclosed by the Ringstrasse is historic old Vienna, a maze of streets filled with parks, palaces, museums, churches and theatres.
A short walk from any point within the Ring will take you to the two most famous landmarks of Vienna, the Opera House on the Ring and St. Stephen's Cathedral — considered to be one of the outstanding examples of church architecture in Europe.
Hotels are plentiful in Vienna, v/ith prices and types of accommodation ranging from the finest luxury hotel to the modest pension and costing anywhere from $2 to $12 a day.
