Vancouver at last has an all-Canadian concert series.
It is being presented in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and Playhouse by Overture Concerts under the direction of well-known Vancouver musician and manager, George Zukerman.
The series of four subscription events will feature contralto Maureen Forrester in her first Vancouver recital on Sunday afternoon, April 12, and the Vancouver debut of Richard Gresko, young Montreal pianist, on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
The Canadian Opera company will present Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" in English with Jan Rubes, and with orchestra, on Sunday evening. Nov. 24, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens from IVIontreal, will appear on Monday, March 2. The Opera and Ballet will take place in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre; the recitals by Miss Forrester and Mr. Gresko will take place in the Playhouse.
Subscriptions for the entire series are available for $13.00 from the theatre box-office (MU 3-3255) and at all Batons branches (where subscribers may charge their memberships on their accounts), as well as from Overture Concerts in town at 960.Richards and on the North Shore at 1299 Marine Drive, North Vancouver.
Oyerture Concerts, whjch originally was active only on the North Shore, made the decision to move downtown to the comfort of Queeft E=tizabeth theatres after tolls were removed from the Lions Gate bridge .
Overture executive director. George Zukerman, is hopeful of a full-house at the new series. "Everybo(Jy interested in Canadian performers has been demanding more and more Canadian artists. So we decided to do something about it. Here it is. Vancouver's first Canadian Concert series," he said.
