Redemption vindkates faith
The emergence of Israel as a modern and forward-looking democratic -nation will have a dramatic manifestation in the redemption of the first Israel 'Bonds floated in the United States twelve years ago. In May, 1951, Prime Minister Ben-Gurion came to this continent to launch the first Israel Bond Issue as a means of lifting the new nation out of a grave' economic crisis caused by the immigration of many tens of thousands of homeless ■ aind penniless refugees.
Although the Government of Israel sought large-scale assistance in the form of a loan to be repaid at maturity, the launching of the Israel Bond program twelve years ago was to a large extent in the nature of an humanitarian endavour. The basic objective was to alleviate the plight of new immigrants who were in need of homes and jobs after having survived the ordeal of mass persecution and destruction in Hitler-controlled Europe.. Examinedpurely according to the criteria of investment, Israel was regarded as a poor risk at that time. ; Nevertheless, there were many'thousands who had faith in the people of Israel and who backed up that faith with the purchase of Israel Bonds. That faith and confidence which started a flow of economic resources that has added up to almost $700,000,000 since 1.951 are -how being vindicated through the repayment of the ten-year Israel Savings Bonds maturing this year.
It is true that Israel; during bad times as well as good, has always honoured its financial dbligatidns. But the redemption of Israel Bonds represents a very striking example of its economic stability and the productive use of Israel has made of aid that has cOme from government channels as well as individuals who invested in its de^relopment. Noav we see a concrete demonstration of. a small undeveloped coutitry faced with severe hardships, very limited; resources, hostile neighbours;
largerscale immigration of-refugees without means, surmounting th^se: towering obstacles through blood, sweat and. tears and through indorhitable courage-and sacrifice.
The continuing growth' of Israer Bonds as a source of extended economic progress and pioneering, especially in the new areas of development, represents a major contribution to the progress of Israel as a land of freedom.

HATE PROPAGANDA
June 5, a statement was made in the House of Commons by Hon: Guy Fa vreau, Minister of Justice, on the question of hate literature. As reported in the press, the minister stated that the department ^'had not yet been abke to devise possible changes in the criminal code which would deal more effectively than the law does at present with such literature, but without endangering freedom of thought and expression. . . . Mr. Fa vreau indicated that in the absence of any acceptable amendment, it might be desirable to test the law as it now exists.

open to non-members
A special non-member fee for new Teen and Tween Time dimmer programs at Jewish Community Centre, has been announced by Centre's Teen committee.
Under chairmanship of Dr. Earr Ellison, the committee met this week to discuss policies re-^ garding teen program activities. Feeling that one of the purposes of the Centre is to serve the entire community, the committee approved establishment of a $20 fee for non-members for each of ' the three-w«ek sessions in both programs.
This means that Centre members participating in the Teen or Tween Time events who wish to bring non-members as guests, will be able to do so by registering the non-members for the $20 fee.
The new programs, under direction of Dorothy Brown, program supervisor, are aimed at providing Teens and Tweens with the opportunity to learn new skills, develop confidence in new situations and learn to relax with others while making new friends. The program operates in three-, week periods: June 29 to July 17; July 20 to Aiigust 7; August 10 to August 28. Registration fee is $17.50 per period for members.
Scholarships are also available. Please apply to Miss Brown for an appointment to "9iscuss^feeVad|us^
