Add heart to the holy
Beth Tikvah holds classes about the holidays.
This time of year is supposed to be a spiritual high point, but all too often people do not have such a spiritually uplifting experience at the High Holy Days. Two upcoming classes at Beth Tikvah Synagogue hope to add more meaning to the holidays.
Having a Meaningftd High Holiday Experience explores what Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are supposed to do for us spiritually and how we can attain those goals. It provides some practical ideas on how to find personal meaning in the midst of all of those words on tlie pages of the machzor. This class is led by Rabbi Barry Leff and it tskes place at the synagogue Tuesday, Aug. 27,7:30-9 p.m.
• Leff is leading Selichot and Repentance on Saturday, Aug. 31, 9:30 p.m., at Beth Tikvah. This session looks at the heart of the High Holy Days - doing teshuvah, which means not only making amends between ourselves and God, but also between ourselves and any people we may liave wronged during the year. Some classic teachings on teshuvah fi^m Maimonides and other sources will be stuSed and there will be discussion about how to apply tliosc teachings in a modem setting. A traditional Selichot service follows immediately after the learning session.
For more information on either learning opportunity, call the Beth Tikvah ofiice at 604-271-6262.
