The State of Israel Bond Organization this week announced the appointment of Mrs. Lil Shapiro and Maurice Lerman as.Co-chairmen of Vancouver's Redemption campaign.
These two prominent communal workers have eagerly accepted this post for a second 'terirt after deriving tremendous satisfaction from last year's Redemption program.
While touring Israel today, as compared to: only a few years ago, Mrs. Shapiro viewed with great excitement and pleasure the extent of the growth of the economic industry, of the country made possible by Bond investors.
The State of Israel Bond Or^ ganization has chosen as its' theme for their Redemption program, "The Land of Promise Keeps its Promise". Centre Choir sets Am 20 xoncert
Vancouver Jewish Community Centre Choir will present a Concert featuring Hebrew, Yiddish and English songs on Sunday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m. in the Centre auditorium.
The 31-voice Choir, formed last October, recently won first place in the Open Choral Division at Kiwanis Music Festival.
The Choir will be directed by Mrs. Elizabeth Wolak. Accompanist is Mrs. Muriel Wolak. Guest soloists performing with the Choir at this Concert will be Claire Klein and Cantor Tiber Moses.
Tickets for the Concert are now available at the Centre front office.

Beth Israel Men's Lunch, scheduled Tuesday, June 1, at Ritz hotel, will have as their guest Dr. Gordon Chapman, who will speak to the group on "Ethics and Business Management." Dr. Chapman was formerly professor of economics at St. Louis University, professor of business administration and head of the department of marketing at U.B.C., and is presently business consultant to Laurie's Limited.
This will be concluding lunch for the season, and all men in the community are welcome to attend.

Unit heads for 1965 Summer Day Camp have been appointed by Vancouver Jewish Community Centre. Miss Mar-cia Toft and Fred Curtis will head Camp's Junior and Senior sections.
Miss Toft, a teacher at the Centre's Nursery school, will be in charge of the Junior Unit for 5, 6 and 7 year olds, while Mr. Curtis, a student at U.B.C. will look after Senior Unit for 8, 9 and 10 year olds.
Day Camp operates for eight weeks beginning Monday, July 5 until Friday, August 27. It will be directed by Miss Cyndi Zimmerman, under supervision of Miss Dorothy Brown, Centre program supervisor.
Miss Toft, 23, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Toft is a native of Winnipeg and received her schooling in Vancouver, graduating from King Edward High. She spent a year in Israel on Ninth Habonim Workshop at Kibbutz fjesher Haziv where she had extensive experience working in t h e i r'^ children's houses. On returning, she took a course in pre-school education at UPC and has taught for two years' at the Centre and is with the kindergarten at Talmud Torah. An active member of Habonim, bdth in Vancouver and at Camp Miriam, she has worked many years with Israeli Folk Dancing. This fall she leaves fbr Israel to further her education and teaching career.
Mr. Curtis, 18, son of IVb*. and Mrs. Lorne Curtis, has just completed his first year studies in the faculty of science at UBC, with a high standing. A graduate of Sir Winston Churchill, he participated in various school activities and ji>$iAt«ui;ed. «u first jcJass, stand-.

He belonged to "Churchill Club", highest award given for outstanding contribution to the school and received a government scholarship last year for university studies. Mr. Curtis was treasurer on "Frosh Council" at UBC. He has been a volunteer worker at the Centre and was a counsellor at last year's Day Camp. Mr. Curtis plans a career in architectural engineering.

The Congregation now comprises a membership of 540 families, and a Religious school enrolment of 285 pupils. It sponsors a youth program which has affiliated approximately 75 teen-agers with U.S.Y. groups. Sisterhood and.

for Two New Glosses for the September 1965 School Term
A WEEKLY CLASS FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS, entitled "JUDAISM AND THE JEWISH WOMAN'' will be conducted by Rabbi M. Hier, and will meet oh a two-hour per week schedule. Among the topics selected for thorough investigation and discussion will be:
1. Kashruth and the Jewish Home.
2. inter-faith dating, and its possible effect on the Jewish Community.
3. The Role of the Jewish Woman in Society.
4. Philosophy of customs and ceremonies'synonymous with the Jewish Home.
A WEEKLY CLASS FOR HIGH SCHOOL BOYS offering a dual program of Jewish philosophy and "Nusach Ha-T'fillah". The class will meet one hour a week with Cantor Deutsche who will teach the correct method and ''nusach" for the prayer services. The other hour will be devoted to a study of basic Jewish philosophy under the direction of Rabbi Hier.
Fees, $50.00 per student for either class. Registration will be accepted May 30th, June 13th and "June 20th, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, at the office of the Schara Tzedeck Synagogue. •
