Redemption evening to hear versatile artist
Lew Norman, popular, well-known humorist, raconteur and song stylist, will appear in Vancouver, June 23, on behalf of State of Israel Bond organization.
Mr. Norman has appeared in almost every phase of show business; has won several awards, and is a favorite performer for many humanitarian causes throughout the country. With a sense of great pride he points to the State of Israel Bond issue as the central source of investment capital for Israel's economic development.
The confidence and support of those who invested in Israel Bonds in the early years of the State are being vindicated in the repayment of these bonds at the rate of 150 cents on thr? dollar. Between May 1, 1963,

All bondholders who have matured bonds have been notified by Mr. Lerman this week and he strongly urges them to present bonds for redemption to the local office, 5731 Granville St., phone 266-7210. Matured bonds are of no further assistance to the country and should be redeemed immediately.
Mrs. Sam Gold, chairman of Women's Division of State of Israel Bond Campaign, in the absence of Mrs. Lil Shapiro, redemption chairman, has announced elaborate plans for an evening, June 23, with cocktails and refreshments. A delightful surprise includes youngsters of the community. Mrs. Gold noted, "This Redemption Evening will be remembered and enjoyed by all."

when redemption began and the end of 1964, Israel had already paid out more than $66,-000,000 on such maturities, and an additional $43,000,000 will become payable in 1965.
Maurice Lerman, co-chairman of the redemption campaign reports a substantial proportion of those whose bonds have matured, have chosen to reinvest the funds in new Israel bonds, and he hopes that "many more*will follow. Furthermore, Mr. Lerman reported, confidence in Israel's future as reflected in reinvestment of early Israel Bond purchases now matured, has not only been made by individuals, but by banks, labor unions, insurance companies and other institutions.
In 1964, more than $12,000,-000 Israel bonds were bought by some 550 banks.

The give-and-take aspect of Israel Bond program is further reflected in the large proportion of proceeds from the sale of Israel Bonds which are spent on this continent. Last year Israel spent more than $200,000,000 in the U.S. for purchase of machinery, tools, wheat; Israel bought more goods from the U.S. than from

Council focuses on adult education
MONTREAL—An adult education program to teach its 6,500 members how to take social and legislative action has been drawn up by National Council of Jewish Women of Canada.
The correspondence course in public affairs, organized by Mrs. M. J. Freiman of Vancouver, will begin next fall.
"Our ultimate hope is that every member who takes this course will be able to make her contribution to the community by deliberate, thoughtful and active behaviour," Mrs. Freiman said in an interview during Council's Biennial Convention recently.
The course will take the form of study discussion groups in cities from Montreal to Vancouver. Planned in consultation with Dr. Coolie Ver-ner, professor of adult education at U.B.C., it is seven sessions long.
"The course attempts to de-liniate major issues in Canadian life today," I said Mrs. Freiman. These issues are grouped under headings of Canadian unity, economic goals and social reorganization.
