OTTAWA — Israel's Foreign Minister, Abba Eban^ conferred here last weekend with Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and Foreign Minister Paul Martin on matters of mutual concern to the two countries.

the list, as Mr. ' Eban reviewed with Canadian Government officials the policies of the Great Powers in the Mid-' die Eastern area and United Nations affairs. He also discussed with his Canadian hosts the U.N. , Emergency Force's role in the Middle East. Canada has a large contingent in this force.
Canadian Jewish leaders met as well with Mr. Eban when Am-jbassador Gershon Avner tendered a luncheon for the Israeli Foreign Minister.
While in Ottawa for a two-day visit; Mr. Eban also met the Hon.
Jean-Luc Pepin, Acting Minister of Trade and Conmierce, as well as senior officials of the Departments , concerned, for informal talks. Mr. Eban left Ottawa for talks in London with British officials including the British Foreign Secretary. He arrived back in Israel this week.
The Israeli Foreign Minister had flown to Ottawa following a visit In the United States during which President Lyndon B. Johnson received hun at the White House. The meeting was attended' by Avraham Harman, Israeli Ambassador to the United States; by Robert Komer, President Johnson's deputy special a.ssistant; and by Eph-raim Evron, a Minister at the Israeli Embassy.

TEL AVIV—In three months since November Knesset elections, 72 strikes have broken out in Israel involving 47,500 workers which exceeds total number of strikers in the entire year of 1964.

AZARETH—This city, where Christ grew up an^ where He lectured to the rabbis at the age of twelve, today is the stronghold of an Arab population, largely Communist. Though citizens of Israel, they are generally critical of the Israeli government.
When I talked about this with the former mayor of Nazareth, Seif Eddine Zubi, I found that his wife had a brother and. a cousin in the cabinet of Jordan just across the boundary. Both the ex-mayor and his wife were very pro-Israel. But only six weeks 4g() the mayor had been defeated for re-election by his cousin, who had teamed up with the Communist party. Both the Conununists and the cousin were elected.
When I talked to ex-Prime Minister Beh-Gurion as \ to how there could be peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors, he repUed: '*When'Russia and the; United States decide there will, be peace. They have been sending arms, to the Near East, and any time they get together they can bring peace to us."
This is true. Furtherinore, the amount of arms sent by the Russians to Egypt and the amount of arms sent by the United^tates to nearby Jordan and Saudi Arabia is so great that Israel faces somewhat the same situation as it did in 1956, when, threatened
