The "Chippers" continued their winning ways in the Vancouver Bantam Basketball League with a 67-22 victory over Moran Drugs. The win was the fifth straight for "Chippers" and left them undefeated and in first place. Excellent shooting by Doug Strong and Morrie Lipson with 16 and 10 points respectively and strong defensive performances by Dave Walters and Larry Stoffman were instrumental in the easy victory. The full-court press jumped the Centre team into a 20-3 lead and they were never headed. They play exhibition matches during the next month before resuming league play on Jan. 3.
In table tennis action, J.C.C. "A's" beat the YMCA "Wanderers" 7-3 despite playing one man short. Joel BuIIer and Victor Meyer won all of their matches.
The "Pink Pussycats" stumbled for the second week in a row, and went down at the hands of North Van. Merchants 55-50. The fast start which saw the J.C.C. team open the season with five straight victories still leaves them in second place in league standings with a 5-2 record, one game behind North Shore Teachers. They still should be the power to reckon with when league play resumes on Jan. 4.
Despite the presence of a new coach in the person of Wayne Norton, the Centre's teen floor I hockey squad was imable to hit the victory trail. They lost their I third and foiu-th consecutive games this past week going down I to Marpole-Oakridge 15-6 at the I Centre and 12-6 at Marpole Com-Imunity Centre. Better things are forecast when they resume play I in January.
The Centre's two Volleyball teams both went down to defeat in league competition the past week. The "A" team still himg on to first place although losing for the second week in a row, this time to the YMCA "Flamingoes" 3 games \o 1. The team has been hurt because of regulars missing games due to exams and/or business commitments. The "B" team composed of Hy Weiss, Saul Apfelbaum, Charlie Hammer, Dr. Peter Fransblow, Jack Stevenson and Dave Harris, have a 2 and 2 record.
