An (extraordinary gift — one of the finest and mpst magnificent to come from Canada has been made by Mrs. Bertha Baron, pioneer resident of Western Canada and now of Vancouver, to Israel's national University — the Hebrew University of Jerusalem —• according to an announcement made this week in Montreal by Allan Bronfman, National President of the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University.
The gift consists of two projects, both of them vital to facilitating and assisting many of the 12,000 students on the University's campus. The first is "The Harry and Bertha Baron Student Dormitory Wing", to be situated in the enclave of dormitory buildings at the western end of the Jerusalem campus and which will provide living and studying quarters for dozens of students,. both from Israel and from nations around the world. ■ ,
The second part of Mrs. Baron's munificent ctotribution is to be known ais "The Bertha Baron Endowment for Stitdent Scholarships at tlie Hebrew University" . . .. a permanent fund which annually and. in perpetuity will yield dozens of scholarships to meritorious and needy students from all faculties and schools of the University.

Mrs. Baron's generous gift will make possible dormitory facilities at the Hebrew University. A typical room in a dormitory building is pictured at right.
Board of Governors of the Hebrew University, in announcing the gift called it "one of the most munificent that the University has received."
"This gift," he said, "constitutes a giant step forward in the University's continuing battle to find additional means of student assistance and support and the efforts currently being made to expand existing facilities for student hous-nig. Mrs. Baron is to be heartily congratulated not only for this truly wonderful gift, but moreover for the personal philosophy that it implies, for it envisages (and in many cases will help make possible) a great future for the students of today who are to be Israel's leaders of the future.
"Recently, when I was in Van-coucer, Mrs. Baron indicated that she has great faith in the young people of the Jewish State and that she would make every effort to
assure that tangible help from her own resources would be extended to them for she has every intention of personally enjoying both the "naches" an<l the fulfillment that her contribution will achieve. I am most pleased to make public these gifts from Mrs. IJaron at this time, and to extend to her the deep and heartfelt gratitude and appreciation of the Board of GJovernors of the Hebrew University, coupled with the profound wish that she will enjoy length of years to personally eyewitness the effect that her generosity has had on those who are training now to be Israel':; future leaders. I sincerely believe that the Canadian community owes Mrs. Baron a debt of gratitude, toO; for her dedication enhances the role that Canadians have played and continue to play towards strengthening the Hebrew University which is a major factor in the strengthening and consolidation of the Jewish State".
